Why is it so easy for Cirrus to understand how to make advancements in developing their airplanes?

Continental out, Lycoming in.

Somewhere in Pennsylvania a business development manager had a happy Christmas...

Most GA planes have an advancement every decade or two. Cirrus has at least a small advancement every single year.

I received a FedEx overnight package yesterday, with a letter dated yesterday, saying watch for the announcement today. (Or am I a day off?) That was it - one letter; one paragraph - signed by my area rep.

Cirrus is selling airplanes. I mean, guys in an office, thinking about what they could innovate next; what could sell more planes; how to reach out to more people, and how to make the contact they have feel like they are interested and important.

Others in GA are coasting.

This. There's no doubt about it, Cirrus are interested in selling piston singles. Until recently that's all they did, and they're good at it.

Capitalism, baby!

I do love seeing them be so successful at something near and dear to my heart (aviation).

Id almost choose a lower powered Lycoming Cirrus over a 22 to get away from Continental.

Lycoming? That's kind of sleeping with the enemy, isn't it? Also, possibly foreboding...I imagine that Cirrus was a chunk of Continental's business.

Funny that Beech is owned by Textron and their piston aircraft use TCM engines. Cirrus is owned by the Chinese and the new G6 SR20 is powered by a Lycoming engine.

Strange world we live in. Hopefully this will keep everyone in GA happy and healthy!

So I ask the former owner of my 182T with the Lyc if he recommends any tricks to hot start the new plane, as most of my planes have always had something just a bit different that helped.

He said, as if it made perfect sense: just use the method in the POH - no problems.

Now it may also have something to do with a starter that you could taxi on.

I would imagine once the pre-existing contracts end we will see lycoming powered bonanza and barons, GE powered King Airs, all spinning McCauley props (Unless textron has dismantled beech completely by then).

Adding power to increase gross weight is a technique that goes back almost to the Wright Brothers.

Cirrus only sold 31 SR-20's in each of the 2014 and 2015 years; the other ~ 90% of their piston sales were SR-22's, and they're still using Continentals.

I think the gross weight increase is coming mainly from the G1000 Nxi avionics package. Getting rid of a bunch of heavy stuff that the G1000 relies on.

I don't think they are doing anything to the engine on the SR22 line. Lycoming is only for the SR2) line.

I don't think the G1000 suite has ever weighed near 150#. I have 75 or 80 in my mind for some reason.

Moving from the CMI IO-360 to the 215hp Lyc IO-390, however, seems like a great reason to seek a GW increase.

What's a new sr-22 going to set a buyer back? And a new G36 costs?
