Say you've inherited a run-out 340, 5500TT, 1472/1523 on the RAM VI engines(one which "suffered an internal failure leading to loss of oil pressure" ), 100 hours on new MT composite 4 blades, and you just want it "gone".......who would you send a guy to?

Or, would you sink a TON of cash into it to bring it up to speed, to maybe get back .75-.80 on the dollar?

What says the BT brain trust?

(sorry, no specifics on avionics equipment)

When did it fly last? And you say one engine is currently unairworthy and needs overhaul?

I'd call Jerry Temple, one of the bigger twin Cessna brokers. If he won't sell it for you he would at least have ideas about what else you might try.

Erwin- not a terrible idea, but this guy isn't going to want that hassle.

Charles-no info on last flight. Correct, at least one engine would need OH.

Jon- perfect, I'll send him Jerry's way.

Should have said this wasn't my airplane, it's a "friend of a friend" deal, just trying to help them out(no $$ coming my/our way! ).

Thanks all!

A lot depends on how nice it is. If it's super swanky, then getting a new RAM then sell probably makes sense. If the plane is generally tired, part out probably is easier.

Kent Cook is a good guy and seems to move a decent number of twin cessnas - jerry is an expert but seems to specialize in higher end.

I'd also second talking to Jerry and he would be able offer some great advice. It would have to have a lot of other very good attributes before I'd turn on the fire hose of $$.

In my several month experience with C340s, I've been absolutely amazed at how much $$ you can sink into these birds. The fellow that owns the one I'm currently renting has probably stuck $50K into his this year and that's just scratching the surface of what she needs right now. If it were mine, I'd have to spend $30K to get a new a/c unit (factory a/c stopped working), $30-35K in paint (paint looks just awful), $30-40K in interior (interior is rough) and probably another $25-30K in misc fix ups that it could really use right now. Add that up and you're at $165K-$185K on a bird that's currently flying.

I was looking at the possibility of buying a C421 recently and a 'B' model I was looking at just had $90K in catch up mx performed on it (didn't touch the engines). When I looked at the work order, it still had another $30-40K of work that was deferred that will probably need to be done soon.

These twin Cessnas are great birds but they can suck the life outta you.

Jerry has been looking for planes to restore. I spoke to him a while back, give him a call.

Here is what I say about the experience of flying/owning the 340A put into fewest words possible...

"The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat."

Kent Cook is a great guy. Most honest broker I've met and a real pleasant guy. Hooked us up with N408T.

If it has decent paint and radios and the frame is solid---why not rebuild the one engine and get it flying then sell it. Seems like an as is sale is gonna be a near give away.
