The Harpoon sounds like quite a useful airplane if one can find one. Didn't know much about the Piper Not much useful load I guess. Got friend thing about converting his piston one but he flies solo most of the time. How come all the good ideas get shot down?

Adam, Yes you are correct I bought a used one and am doing a complete refurb at the moment. If you google "Walker Hester Harpoon" there are a bunch of shots and a article or two on it. I guess my big question now is what "Forum" I should be lurking in? Singles, Twins, Turboprops or what??? HAHA

HAHA I never knew Walker Hester was involved with the Harpoon, I thought Wendell Hall had it solo. What are the odds, 2 guys working on a project with the same initials, explains the WH-xxx serial numbers.

Cool bird, what accident? Username Protected wrote: Adam,
Wendell did all the conversions and the idea and engineering was all him. Walker was listed as the builder on his because he helped with it. They were both very good friends till the accident.

The same thing in that they are or were both turbine conversions of Barons. According to Wikipedia, the Lightning used the 58P fuselage and a B36TC wing. It was first flown with a Garrett engine and later with a PT-6.

As far as the lightning it is basically the same thing. They are all in the experimental category. Some in homebuilt some are in exhibition. So why is the 38P in exhibition (which makes it useless as a personal airplane) while the Harpoons are in homebuilt?

Quote: I get that, but if they can't be made anymore, what's the point ? I think the point was that a poster here was & is trying to share his excitement about his incredible airplane, and I think it's sad that you'd actually ask him "what's the point" when he tells you it's a good fit for himself. He never said you should buy one, or try to sell you one. Eric, the plane is spectacular, I envy you! Chris
