I am interested in hearing opinions on what it is like to fly from a stick and rudder and if you had to hand fly it in IMC. What is average useful load on a IFR equipped one? Does it have a sensitive Bonanza like CG? Anything that you think is special about it.

It's comparable to my old F33A in nearly every respect... speed, useful load, fuel burn etc ("win some" and "lose some")... slightly more fun to fly but still very stable... Useful will vary depending on how much you deck it out.. but around 1000-1100 lbs on average (fuel capacity is 60 gal).. CG isn't as sensitive I'd say, but it is a bit "nose heavy" when flying solo or only two up front (to allow for that CG range)... You could pick it apart and you'll find pros and cons when compared to say an F33A, but overall they're neck-and-neck.. I haven't had a chance to hand fly it in IFR but I see no reason why it'd be harder than a Bonanza.. though, exp autopilots work really, really well Honestly, the only thing I dislike about it is door latch (and in general, door) design... IMHO that is its weak spot and requires a bit more attention/care... there's been more than one where pilots forgot to latch the door properly and it ripped off on takeoff.. (it won't just pop open like in a bonanza)... but as long as you ensure doors are closed/latched, you won't have any troubles.. This would not stop me from owning one, though.

I could deal with one-up or tandem seating. No lancair 4Ps, their proponents annoy me. Mike, It is my understanding the 14 is a plus sized 7A. I wonder why they don't seem to be selling as well as the others? Sharon's looks great! I wonder how difficult it would be to do a center stick mod?

Tim, we have an IFR RV10 and at 1500 hours we have more hours than most, in fact there are only a handful of folk with that much time on them. A lot like a good F33 or a G36......yes thats what I said. The G36 is heavy so the mid 80-90's A36 have higher useful loads, but the G is about the same. If you are really keen to discuss this PM me. we can arrange a face time or phone call.

David and I both fit in his 10 so does that mean it is plus sized as well? Fun plane and wonderful place to fly... I need to visit Brisbane again soon...

Speaking of plus sizes, I am interested in buying an RV for fun. I have flown in RV12s and RV6’s. The RV12 is brilliant but I want to do light aerobatics so not an option. The elephant in the room is me. I am 6’4 and 210lbs. The RV6 is cramped and I don’t consider it an option. That leaves, I believe, the 7,8 and 14. I am not a builder and since few 14s are flying I think I am down to the 7 and 8. I am very comfortable wearing a headset in my F33A but I had to install thin, dense, foam seats. Any big guys out there flying RVs?

There is a mod to the -6 and -7 seatbacks that improves shoulder room. https://antisplataero.com/products/almo ... 4-seat-modI have a -6A and would be happy to answer any questions you may have! Ben

I just flew the 12 for the first time today. It will be a nice little training airplane.

I fly a -8 but take my BFR in a -7. In the -7 you are up against the side wall and if you fly with two, you are rubbing shoulders.

I wasn’t aware of the “almost a 14” mod. I read all about it and watched the YouTube videos. It’s brilliant! I will try to find someone nearby with the mod to try it out for size. Thanks!

One of our mentors built a 14; I’m anxious to give it a try. I fly a 6 to Oshkosh with a buddy every year where we volunteer at HBHQ. Most say the 7 is a bit more stable than the 6 with its larger tail but I cannot comment. I’ve also flown the 10 but I’m not really all that keen on it (rather have a Bo). I’ve yet to fly the 8 but we also have mentors flying those and I’ve been promised a go at that one. I do have some 4 experiences but the one I’d really like to try on would be the 3. Oh yeah, I flew our 12 yesterday a couple of times around the patch; nice little trainer!
