This is a very happy day, mainly for my mate Gerry, but I did a bit of helping along the way, built all the panel, avionics and wiring. So with zero bugs and a faultless first couple of flights, we are over the moon. IFR RV8 with heat in the rear of the cabin (world first we think).

So for a bit of RV8 eye candy.....enjoy.

Looks like I need to visit Brisbane again... I assume this is the one we looked at when I was in town last...

Jay.....there are some more whiskey's to test too.

Yes, we visited Gerry in his shed.

Robert, it is a stroked lycoming IO395, Vetterman dual exhaust.

It is the nicest RV I have seen to date. Interior is very nice, and the avionics set up....is, well lets just say brilliantly done :pilot:

I´ve never seen an RV, just on pics. The 8 seems to be my favorite in a taildragger configuration. How does it handle on the ground? Lets say compared to a 185?

Never flown a 185 but compared to an RV-4, the -8 is a lot "squirrelier" during the rollout.

I'm making S L O WWW progress on my -8. I'm currently working on the engine baffle. I think I could have carved it out of stone faster. I'm amazed how many of these things get done considering the amount of work involved. It also changes the way you look at a certified airplane. Considering the number of man hours involved with building, the price of a quality Bonanza is a bargain!

Was sitting around the campfire at Oshkosh with Van 35 years ago. As part of a very long conversation he said something like, 'It depends what you want to do. Build or fly. If you want to fly, for the price of an RV kit, engine, and instruments, you can buy a very nice used Bonanza and be flying tomorrow.'

As RV prices go up and Bonanzas' down, this is more true than ever. And now there are a million completed RVs you can buy, too.

I wonder why that is, they are the same length pretty much. I wonder if the gear on the squirrley one was not aligned perfectly.

I flew a Smith miniplane that was "darty" on touchdown until the gear was aligned.

That's what I was wondering. I've never flown either but after futzing with alignment and measurements when attaching the gear legs I can't help but think that some -8 gear are better aligned than others.

None of the RVs are squirrelly in any aspect except pitch when loaded aft CG..

If someone says an RV is squirrelly, something is wrong with the plane, or more likely, the pilot.
