Oh yeah... touchy little bastards.

People wanted $3,500 to make a triangular fire pit area with pavers. YGBSM

Boxer control layout leaves a lot to be desired as does the pump setup, that's why they are touchy with a single always on pump running everything.

Dingo is still the best with 4 pumps (two traction ones being variable displacement so not touchy at all) and the plate control. I buy them by the dozen then auction them off after a season.

My 7 year old great grandson can really move them. Kid moved and spread 36 tons of rock last weekend.

Anyway, wonderful tools around the farm. They save me probably half a million in payroll each year and never show up to work drunk.

Your engine is rated 25hp. That doesn’t mean it produces max power all the time, far from it.
And from your description the belt takes at most 2/3 of the power.
Not that a belt can’t take power. There are belt drives for thousands of hp.
All I’m saying is that I am dubious of the photo alternator making a constant 200-something amps for hours on end needed for anti-ice as described.

The "throttle" is a governor setting. It sets desired engine speed to a set RPM. The engine governor sets the engine power as needed to maintain that rpm. It will seldom be at full power.

I'll tell the engine that next time the harley rake is bogging it down...

Jeff is right. Possibly he could have added until the engine is unable to maintain full power.

I have one, it’s 7500watts, not 17500, and it’s not constantly pulling that, it pulses in short 5-10 second durations, swapping flight surfaces in rotation, you can see the compass swing when the electrical field is excited, it works well and got me out of a jam once

When my engine was N/A standard IO-550, I would see the engine surge from the Hp being robbed, now with the tornado alley TN kit, the compass swing is your only clue

Dave’s setup will likely not show an effect at all, he’s got plenty of oomph

I asked on his youtube update post:

What is the current empty weight? And in its current configuration - what are the anticipated speeds and payload for the prototype. I understand this is the prototype - but any performance predictions?

Peter's response:

Empty weight is 3143. Not sure which speeds you want. The payload for the prototype is irrelevant given that it's overweight because of previously mentioned items. No real predictions on performance. We'll have to see.

He has no idea what it's going to do.

Will there be another 92 pages of beating this guy up?

Of course, this is BeechTalk. Everyone knows juuuuuusssssttttt a liiiiiiiitttttllle bit more than anyone else. My last home built smashed into a pile of 2x4’s and plywood after I flew it off of the garage.

Give the guy some credit for doing what he’s doing. He’s not building from a quick build kit at a factory assist shop like you did. Or didn’t, if you’ve never built a plane. It’s pretty bad that a lot of you are waiting for him or a test pilot to get killed just so you can say, “I told you so.”

I think I can safely say......EVERYONE at Beechtalk wants no one to to be hurt or killed in an attempt to prove this pig can fly

It looks like a team is going to evaluate it next week for a test flight.

As I've said before, if he were just building the plane, I would be happy to give him kudos. But he's taking money from gullible people with promises that are turning out to be just as impossible to deliver as we said all along and no, I don't think he deserves kudos for that. Do you? Or are you willing to just overlook that because he's a builder, like Jim Bede?

Are you now criticizing the people who have never posted on this thread? Because we're at 92 pages (and counting!) of people NOT waiting for somebody to get killed before saying "I told you so"!

Just my opinion, but I think you're out of line with this one.

An outrageous claim like 3000 miles at 300 knots on 9 gph for $300K?

I completely expect people to say it ain't gonna happen.

Good for him designing and building the airplane. But this isn't going to replace modern transportation or revolutionize GA.

He's on to something with the engine. But that still will take some serious tweaking and engineering to get right.
