Oh this is going to be interesting.

He's either going to do what he hints at and get a new test pilot, which would set the program back months if not years as they re-hash all of the old issues with the plane, or...

He's going to fly it himself.

Place your bets.

One thing I'm sure of: Wasabi is breathing a sigh of relief.

How would you safely bail out with a pusher prop?

The way it's advised in a Velocity (if the prop is still turning) is that once the door is open, pivot to your left (assuming you're in the pilot seat) so the strake leading edge is in your belly. You will then slide outward to the wingroot. At that point you can fall and not be near the prop.

This is all theory since I've never heard of anyone jumping from a gullwing door Velocity.

Curious, what ever happened with this design?

Norman's summary is good.

Here is an old thread (when the design was already fading from people's memories). You don't need to be a member to read it: http://eaaforums.org/showthread.php?841 ... s-Aircraft

There are pieces of stories like this all through aviation history. I think it's good that they're out there for people to dig up; I wouldn't like for any of them to be erased. Human nature doesn't change much but these storylines seem to echo again and again- which I think is part of what you and Norman are getting at.

I was monitoring my Unicom frequency that I shared with St Augustine in the late 80s. The tone of a pilot's voice grabbed my attention when I heard him state "deep stall-gotta get out!. It was followed by a bunch of air to air chatter then a "he's OK" and "a boat is pulling up"

Turns out I t was a Velocity with a professional test pilot. The aircraft had settled into a stabilized stall that no power or control input would affect. The test pilot who was wearing a chute reportedly opened the canopy and stood up. When he observed the VSI he realized the impact was survivable and he elected to stay with it and ride it down. He and the aircraft survived the impact and the floating aircraft was towed through the inlet to the airport seaplane ramp on the intracoastal.

Yep. He even leaned out over the nose as far as he could to try and break the stall.

The airplane was flying again very shortly after that.

It's kind of a semi- famous case study in canard aerodynamics. I'm doubly glad that he not only lived but also that the event helped advance aviation one more step forward.

How does a test pilot with those giant brass balls and ice water filled veins fit in any aircraft, let alone get off the ground?

Without a doubt, he needs to livestream it. Because it may the last video he makes.

In his latest comment, he asks us to trust his judgement. After years of demonstrating that he lacks any semblance of judgement, that’s a big ask.

Let’s see, the guy has gone through 2 tests pilots. The first one wouldn’t even touch it. Second group has found serious issues every time they have been there. He doesn’t like what they say, so off to the 3rd guy. I think if I had a test pilot saying that he was unsure of the location, I would have moved it a long time ago. I’m sure he can find someone they will try to fly it. It may even fly, but it will never meet his goals and the project is dead.

Ten bucks says he tries to fly it himself.

The man in the mirror will fly it, once he has the a/w cert in order. He's too mentally invested to let it go, and likely too butt hurt to hire new test pilots.
