OTOH, Kitfox has lots of experience with aircraft that fly less than 130 kts.

I contend that no one with aircraft design and construction experience would want the Raptor. What part of it could you build on without completely redesigning/rebuilding it first? It would be easier, faster and cheaper to start again from scratch. Maybe the copilot’s seat and the avionics could form the nucleus of Raptor 2.0

I believe you are right. There is absolutely nothing new or groundbreaking in the raptor. Anyone who's built an airplane before would see that. Thinking back to the two threads on the HBA forum, I can't think of one person who thought the airplane would come close to its stated goals.

If aliens dropped off a new engine that ran on 1/2 the fuel and produced 5 times the power, all you'd have in this project is a great engine. Everything else is garage sale material.

There’s probably over $100 worth of scrap metal in there.

I never realized Lycoming was owned by aliens. That does explain a few things.

That has also been my thoughts. The airframe is just a poor knock off of existing designs. The engine setup is unworkable as is, and isn't groundbreaking in any fashion. That is why I was skeptical when I first heard about the Raptor in the first place, and its performance goals.

Used bently w12 engine are cheap. Can put out 600hp. Designed to run at high power all day. Weighs less than comparable aircraft engines. Would have been my choice for the raptor.

Could it be Mike Patey?

Why would he buy raptor? He could recreate it in a long weekend if he was so inclined.

He could certainly fix it, but he's also sharp enough to not bother trying. The airframe isn't special, so fixing the powerplant does little.

First thing Mike would do is remove the 72 cooling loops.

Did you notice in the last video he talked about the brilliance of cutting in a fresh air vent, and how nice it was? What about the the AIR CONDITIONER that is installed?

Mike Patey makes special one-off designs. His stuff isn’t geared towards cost effective production or kits that home builders could replicate. I don’t see him as the right person to take a prototype and turn it into a production kit plane.

The Raptor also doesn’t fit a hole in his collection. He has planes that are much faster and planes that land and takeoff much shorter. What does the Raptor add? It doesn’t seem like a plane he would have any interest in.

Maybe he just wants to reward an individual that decided to put himself out there and dedicate 6 years of his life in an attempt to make GA more exciting and attainable.
