That was really weird. He signed up on BT, apparently using his real name, with a doctored photo, claiming a PC-12 that his company leases, apparently not having a pilot’s license, strictly to post blather about the Raptor and insult anyone who doubted. Once exposed, he vanished but his profile remains.

I’ve asked it before: what could possibly motivate that?

Reverse bipolarity

He probably just enjoyed to mess with us while it lasted.

I'd almost forgotten about the reversed PC-12 picture. Gotta admit that one was kinda funny.

Why the Raptor? I just don't understand what's going on here, what his interest is in this steaming pile of carbon fiber. It's a sign of what a great troll he is that I'm considering this 3 months after his last post.

And thus, his mission was accomplished with great success..........

As far as it goes, sure. But that isn't normal. What's the psychology here?

I dunno what the psychology is, I guess. I was under the assumption that seeing how far it goes was the troll game.....but I also know what assumptions do, so I could be wrong.

Perhaps he was an investor, and was hoping to build the bric...errr.....brand, back up?

Fly Raptor, Fly

I question your definition of "smart". ;)

After looking at all the development that he has done on that bird, you do need to give credit where credit is due.
My issue is that he is taking money from people... And can't in no way back up his claims.
But it is pretty cool what he has accomplished so far.
That thing has very little chances of ever flying. And hopefully won't kill anyone in the process. But I do recognize that he has some interesting ideas.

I hope he is really Chris Close and not someone that has hijacked the name of a real person.

I think he bought into the dream, in some sort of personal way, as there are people on this very thread did, especially early on.

There are lots of people who dream of flying, but feel like the deck is unfairly stacked against them, by unseen corrupt forces who make it expensive to keep people out. It is a sort of David vs. Goliath mythos.

So the "dream" is dangled, a pressurized, fast, long range, personal airliner for the cost of a well-appointed luxury car (not even an exotic!) and boom, there's the underdog to root for, who can only be stopped by "unseen evil forces who are driven by profit..."

He's caught up in some false sense of duty to oppose all that evil that's trying to stop the dream. Including all critics, who of course, are just agents of those invisible evil actors...

I was referring to the troll, not the guy building the airplane.

But even then, what Peter has accomplished so far is to take a bunch of CF, epoxy and an Audi engine that make it run up and down a runway. If that thing ever does make it into the air (which based on his last few videos, I have my doubts) then he'll have accomplished something.

Took me a while to remember it...but kind of reminds me of the Valkyrie:

Er, now "Centauri"...

Quote:
The company ceased operations in July 2018 and the design passed to the Centauri Aircraft Company

That one was a non-starter from the beginning.
