Far a car shutting down the engine makes sense. In an airplane you want to ride that sucker to the safest place in the neighborhood. I would progran to the minimum power to maintain altitude at Vx. Then manually cut back to hit my targeted touch down point.

Abram, in one breath you tell us that he didn’t know that the engine had an electronically controlled thermostat, and in the next you say that he should know whether the computer was set up to shutdown the engine automatically. Why would we think that? He’s demonstrated that he knows only the very basics of the engine computer and the engine itself. He learned what he knows by watching some online seminar if I remember right. He won’t listen to anyone who actually knows the engine and how to set it up. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that it is set up to do something else that he’s unaware of.

If he gets away from the airport environment and has to land anywhere unpaved at 80+ knots, I think the odds of an ugly ending are unfortunately very high. Especially since we know he's going to run the engine for an hour and if he doesn't see anything..... back to flying. I mean, his theory may be correct that the turbos choked the engine before any damage was done. But, that's an awful lot of ASSuMe for me. High EGTs, loss of oil while running, I think I would like to see a tear down before I took back off. I just wouldn't be all fuzzy inside to finish 40 hours and then fly that thing across the country.
I the first redrive design failure I recall there was a sudden stoppage of the engine, right. He just pushed through that like no further inspection required.

Does the recent engine out qualify for Crash Talk?
Technically the engine seized and he dead sticked it the last mile and a half.
Ultimately it was caused by a replacement seal that was too large and he didn’t leave room for the retaining clip, so he just press fitted this one. It lasted for a little bit until the pressure from warm Mr. Oil popped it out. This original seal had to be replaced at 100 hours and the new one was a little large. Maybe he should talk to Guy!
If he lives he might become a better manufacturer. He should have built a Berkut and a few Velocity aircraft first!
