Now that heard the story about the poor flying RC model and the ignoring of the expert engineers, the more I’m convinced this was more about capturing deposits than about creating a viable aircraft. I’m totally convinced it is unflyable .

I can’t imagine this was all just to take people’s money. If so this was the most complex difficult scam of all time. Haha.

I really think he is just over his head and scrambling. Projects like this always take 3 times as long and cost 5 times your highest estimate. I believe he really thought he could do it fast and on budget. I have never seen any project be on time and on budget unless your doing something exactly the same as you have done before. You get custom and new ideas and all bets are off. Try something that has not been done before and you are in for a long ride.


My biggest concern with this aileron issue is what changed to make it so bad lately? It’s a new problem when he has not messed with that part of the plane. Something is stretching or breaking.

Really this plane should go thru an inspection to make sure all aspects are good.

I think that was his point... I believe he was equating each bounce to a hard landing, and if 20 of those broke the landing gear, it needs to be improved.

If ONE of those bounces broke the landing gear it needs to be "improved".

I’m afraid it’s like watching a car crash in slow motion. You can’t look away. Positive words....... most will be able to get their money back from escrow (minus the fee). The ones that dropped $20k and/or bought into the company. Well, sometimes when you speculate in high risk/high award ventures, you lose.

The easiest defect to spot is in the landing gear well... There are cable pulleys installed there. Look at the cable retaining straps on those pulleys. They are far too loose and are bent in a single continuous radius rather than being bent "square" with a tight radius in each corner to conform more closely to the square shoulder shape of the pulley. These cable retaining straps, as fabricated, serve no function other than to increase the empty weight of the aircraft. They certainly will not do anything to hold the cables on the pulleys.

You quite rightly asked for a specific example - the one suggested above is a good one to start with, an easy one to see. If you watch the video again you'll see more challenges in that same area with hose and wire routing and securing. There's a difference between "homebuilt" and "hack job". Much as I hate to say it, most of the plumbing in the gear wells looks disappointingly closer to the later than the former.

BTW I would love to be able to fly a diesel so I keep hoping projects like this one will continue to push diesels into the mainstream. I keep hoping...

I was thinking a prop disconnect and brake built into his belt drive (it needs a redesign anyway) but explosive bolts would be lighter and more exciting. Especially if Peter is the guy wiring them up! :eek:

Another one is the redrive system. Having the motor mounted pulley and redrive pulley not moving insync is probably going to cause problems.

Several guys that race are saying that the turbos are undersized for FL20. Peter picked the turbos off of the website turbo picker if I remember correctly. He needs 2 expert diesel engine guys that focused on the engine setup.

In the latest video, he added the weights to the ailerons. The left aileron weighs more than the right because of the trim tab, yet he decided to make the balance weights the same so now the right aileron wants to tip up. :sad:
