Isn't the 501 just a 500 with factory long wing mod? Some with TR's

Cessna does not support Sierra modd'ed aircraft.

That used to be the case but Cessna changed their policy a few years ago. Cessna will support any unmodified parts of the aircraft. They will not support the Sierra mods. So anything in the aircraft that is factory stock Cessna will support - engines, avionics, systems, etc. Cessna Service Centers will also work on the Williams engines in modified 500/550 on a best efforts basis.

So the 500LW has better performance and carries more fuel than a 501?

The 500LW and 501 both hold 3800lbs of fuel. The Sierra Eagle mod holds 4500lbs and increases the climb performance compared to a 501.
