I see these up for sale occasionally and always wondered how they flew. I have seen one fly in person around Peanut Island here in Palm Beach, but was on a boat and did not get to speak with the pilot. Cheap thrills or Expensive Funeral? http://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-Polaris-Fl ... 2068850084Attachment: flying rib.jpg

I used to manufacture RIBs. We were approached to build this product and we politely declined. It's hard to build the boat light enough for this to work well.
While it flies it is ungainly, to say the least. In level flight, the front is relatively pitched up. It's heavy and slow. I've only seen it flown in calm waters. It's a process to disassemble. There was someone who used to fly one regularly from Watson Island in Miami around 15 years ago, and maybe trying to sell them.
It's a neat toy, perhaps as a yacht tender in the Bahamas or around Newport and Cape Cod.
