 Post subject: push pull water landing instead of pavement??

Wonder why the pilot chose to do a water landing instead of a dry land landing after the landing gear failed to come down. It seems to me he greatly multiplied his risks and also killed the airplane since salt water will surely create many problems if they try to restore it.

Consensus here seems to be that it was risky and an most likely insurance decision, knowing full well how bad salt water would be. I tend to agree...
