Does Andrea know you had that rack in her plane ?? I always thought the straight tails felt way lighter and I liked the manual flaps. Have a friend who has 180 Pponk on floats and loves it. Hes on the Snoqualmish and friends with Steve Knopp for those who know who he is.
Be curious what this Wipline 182 price tag is ??

For the really big ones, i find the a36 doors to be quite handy. Yes, for those that may not know, pponk is knopp backwards. Steve knopp did the initial stc

Steve and Norma Knopp are truly great people, and we became good friends after he installed the O470/520 on my 180. The combination is unbeatable: 150 Kt. at 14 gph. If it all came down to one airplane, it is the Cessna 180. Not excellent at any one particular thing, but good at everything. It gets into my 900 ft. strip at the ranch, yet can handle a trip to Alaska, or around the world. Aviatrix Jerrie Mock proved it more than 50 years ago; first solo woman pilot around the world. It was my honor to spread her ashes over the Gulf of Mexico earlier this year. Best,

Thank you, Mike, Eric: Some years ago at a Cessna 180/185 New Year's eve bash at Lajitas, TX, I (under the influence of Tequila), made a statement as to how I was going to sell it in favor of a 185. My bride flat said that if the 180 went, she would have to go with it. One of my good buddies said that he would take the package deal, and sell me the 180 back in a year at double the price. No further sales talk occurred. The girl is a keeper..... Tom

Glad that's cleared up.
Are there any piston float planes that do better than 110kts?

The Boss 182 will do well over 120 at altitude. The Piaggo Royal Gull and some of the Lakes that, but they aren't technically float planes.....

The 580 is new really that new. There are a number of Commander 114/115 that have been converted also. Lots power does equal lots of fuel. 7500 MSL, 22.5", 2500 RPM, 170 KTAS, 18 GPH, 12C, 2950 lbs. Jim 1994 Commander 114-B (not a 580) Lansing, MI quote="Kelly Kehler"]Russ, I was just gonna ask that if a 550 would be a better option than a new 580? Similar ponies but on a very proven design. Doug, it sounds like that 182 is one heck of a performer curious what makes it stall so slow?? vgs, stall kit?? Heres a plane i seen here this summer and I'd think it would be a tough 182 performer also, its a 300HP King Katmai by Peterson. Didn't take very damn long to get off and he seemed to be afloat at about 30-35 also... I haven't googled this conversion to see what engine is in it yet, I'll go do that. I have to admit I like my 182 for just good ol' honest, haul anything you can stuff in them, tough, ol' proven plane. Ah,haw, they use a 550 D http://katmai-kenai.com/aircraft/katmai.phpEdited: watch this video at 2:22 seconds way cool[/quote]
