Don't get too teary-eyed just yet, gents! Last "BUILT" is not nearly as sad as "last flying" or "retired"!!!! Once the whole Globemaster fleet gets sent to the DM boneyard and/or is sold off to foreign countries, then let the "waterworks" begin! If fact, as I type this, I think I hear one of these beasts doing T&G's at Stewart right now! Great freaking aircraft, btw. I've jumped out of them and seen them swallow all kinds of equipment. I think in Army shipping manuals, the cargo capacity of the C17 is listed as "a metric ass-ton"

I did HF evaluations for the C-130J, brand new airframe. Different from the C-130X and C-130 AMP programs that were retrofits and later discontinued.
You were probably implying that the C-130 design is old, but I can assure you the C-130J is a very sweet airplane.

Chris- Very cool! I don't have a problem with older designs- most of my flight time is in airframes that rolled off the assembly line in the 1960s. I even had the privilege at one time of "owning" the OH-58D with the oldest airframe in the fleet, but I digress. I have nothing but love for the C130. I've taken many a ride in them and even jumped out of a few. But, I'm pretty sure there's a line in my Army contract that says I shall take pot shots at USAF and USN aviation whenever possible!

I was at McChord from 2005-2010 on active duty. Back there now with the reserves.
