I see a lot of 601Ps for sale but VERY FEW 600s. If I was ever to take the leap into A* land, the 600 is what I would want but they seem to be few and far between.

Ron The reason for that is two-fold: Primo, many got the snot flown out of them flying freight. This tells us that they make great economic sense since the pros are looking at one thing: the bottom line. Secondo, the low time examples in private hands stay with their owners a long time and when they do trade, it's usually a done deal before they even hit the market. A good example of this is this beautiful 600A that was the feature of this Flying Doodles video - it was sold before the video was posted !

There were not a lot of 600s made. I believe less than half as many as the P models. They are tough to find and when they are found they do go fast. Useful load is nice and they do vary quite a bit depending on the airplane. I have the wing extensions which give me 800 lbs. useful after full fuel. My wife likes that.

I don't believe that stc is applicable to the p models. I think you'd have better luck just looking for a straight 600 or 600A.

Ron The guy parked beside me at Oshkosh this year removed the turbos, but I don't know if it was a 601B or a 601P.

I hear the 600 is a great airplane, but I'm not going to stick six people in an Aerostar. Have you ever tried to put six adults in it? With recipients that are mobility challenged, the Aerostar is difficult for them to get in the rear two or three seats. Weight isn't my issue, cubic feet is...

That would be a Partenavia P68 - Huge cabin & low operating costs ! I have a friend that has a beautiful example and he loves it :

Ron Yes there is for the non-pressurized 601A/B. That was my intention when I first purchased my 601B, but the pluses of turbocharging far outweigh a straight 600. The maintenance is about the same as a 600 if you fly it like one, but with the additional benefits of: greater useful load, better than 600s or Ps, better single engine performance, better high altitude airport performance, and the list goes on. I still have my 601B for sale; just don’t fly enough. Wish I could justify keeping it. We just added ADS-B out and are completing the paperwork on it.

This is on the ground with the cabin depressurized: The cabin alt indication is going to vary with barometric pressure changes. Only 50 fpm off for Cabin ROC. I’ve only been able to cure gross errors in other twins by sending in the units and given the complexity, risk, and expense of pressurization controllers, I would recommend against it for a needle width of indication error. As a new Aerostar owner, I’m encouraged and envious if that’s one of your more troubling squawks. But I get it, perfection is the ultimate goal!

Bruce, I'm also a new Aerostar owner going through both an import inspection and the first annual. I've got a sound airframe with no corrosion and low time props/engines. The squawk list on the other hand is about 4 miles long. I knew this going in and budgeted accordingly but wow...sooooo many little things (and a few big ones) and couple that with a light panel refresh including a JPI 960. Lots to do....

Sounds like a fun project! Except for the import/export bureaucracy part I suppose. You’ll have to tell us more. What model? I need an engine monitor but will likely go simple like the 760 with the AAC reversion to TIT display config.

I figured I’d post up a report once I got mine back home. Hopefully in a couple weeks. That is if the boss lets me travel to the high risk state of WA in order to get to COE without a 2 week quarantine. Ouch.
