Ha - true words. And for the next level, I was flying this unit tonight thinking “here’s what 350 HP gets you at FL270.” 30 GPH per side but the cabin and baggage are relatively yuge …

John and I ferried my Aerostar from Chico to Toronto in the dead of winter with no heat, no bleed air and no pressurization. Finally had to land and take crew car to to Walmart for warming pads to stuff in our gloves and shoes.

Despite that he's remained good friends with me. :D

  You guys are crazy! I’ve never done anything like that. Well this week anyway … a couple months ago I had to remove my Shrike from Safford, AZ where some shop worked on it for 4 years. Had so many squawks before I got the gear up that I flew it to Idaho to get fixed right with someone trustworthy. I was so mad I even left my suitcase behind. So when I realized the heater wouldn’t work, I started wrapping every extra pc of clothing I had around myself. That amounted to 2 pairs of boxers around my ankles and a tshirt for a hat. It took 45 minutes and 2 cups of coffee to stop the uncontrollable shivering that started after I turned off the runway. At least you landed and got the heaters!

I was in to see Joel at Juliet Delta Aviation...to make a long story short, even though I had a new seal/spring the airbox was hemorrhaging air. Joel reworked the alternate air door and repaired the airbox itself. Now my right engine is back to full MP into the flight levels, my pressurization is back to full differential and the plane is just generally faster/better.

The one plane I always wanted and never owned and at this point in my life I think it is going to stay that way.

“Do you suppose that’s okay with the owner,” asked Unser. Unser was soon taxiing toward the active runway in an airplane he had never flown before. He took off and made his first landing in Illinois ...

Right side co-pilot’s window:

That is the front lower corner.

This was my left rear window last spring, basically the same crack.

The left rear window and right front window are the same part number FWIW.

One of the great things about Aerostars is that they have a lot of common parts, like the elevator that's interchangeable from left to right. Might be the same with the aileron? Ted Smith was a clever man.

Both elevators and the rudder are the same. Both horizontal stabs and the vertical stab are the same. Rudder trim and elevator trim motors are the same. Very smart idea!

Forrest, did you have the rest checked for cracks? A window prism should catch these hole to hole cracks before they become a real problem.
