Sounds like a fun project! Except for the import/export bureaucracy part I suppose. You’ll have to tell us more. What model? I need an engine monitor but will likely go simple like the 760 with the AAC reversion to TIT display config.

1976 601P/SS700. One owner plane since new. The previous owner has EVERY scrap of paper (including advertisements) since the day it rolled off the assembly line.

Looks like you may have a blue panel? My 76 601P is all original cosmetics down to the dealer sticker on the nose. It’s so kitschy that I like it.

Tom - You made me google it - first definition that came up “(of art, objects, or design) considered to be in poor taste because of excessive garishness or sentimentality, but sometimes appreciated in an ironic or knowing way.”

Like a lava lamp? I suppose it was optional to pick the green panel and it’s definitely excessively garish but I think it’s awesome and, at this point, would lean towards restoring it vs. graying it all out.

Edit: I know one of the pneumatic pumps is out - two new ones now installed ...

Ok, I can buy that and I agree. I would work towards restoration.

Has but soon to be "had"...I just couldn't deal with Robin's Egg Blue staring me in the face. Doubly so since it didn't match the rest of the interior which had been reupholstered in the 90's.

Alright John, looks like quite a project! New panels are fun. The Aerostar is a challenge given the available real estate. Looking at every one I can, it’s clear that some have had some crazy layouts evolve which appear user hostile to me. I admit feeling a little bit the same about the green panel as has everyone else apparently because I’ve never seen another one. However, flying it home this weekend it worked great so I’m planning to tweak it as time and money allows.

First impressions: I’ve got a whole 8 hours in two days in it now, but what a cool plane! Straight to FL190 on the first leg, 24”/2200 it covered the ground at 233 KTAS. Second leg at FL210 the same 233 KTAS on the same 34 gph. It flies arrow straight with finger tip controls and great stability, especially longitudinally and a great ride in the chop. It’s like a miniature Commander Jetprop except for the jet like 115 mph clean stall buffet. That wing loading is the opposite of the Commanders. Always fascinated by them, I feel lucky to have a nice example of Ted Smith’s design and will report back once I cover some more ground. It’s clear that, for speed and economy, these planes remain at the top of the piston powered fleet.

For now, it’s off to the paint shop to shine it up better than new.

And those push pull tubes really make them crisp, too. One of the joys is also the no-flutter jet-like Vne. One of the joys of them is to get a slam dunk approach and you just push the nose over and have them scream down at 280kts without even throttling back. Man, cool planes.

I have confused the knots and mph too since MPH is primary in this one and the KTS is largely unlabeled and harder to read. I think there is a kit to “fix” that.

Ooooooh, a polished Aerostar! How cool would that be?!

Probably a little too much aerodynamic smoothing compound required :peace:

But Stewart, it’s not too late to pick your paint scheme!

But seriously, it’s SO much easier to pick paint scheme with clients than on your own plane. I’ve been designing for years and now I’m struggling!
