I have a copy of Aerostar Aircraft Ground Training written by Don Smith. Though I am not enamored with Mr. Smith or his book, it has some value to anyone moving to an Aerostar. To try insure that the book goes to a legitimate Aerostar buyer/future owner and not a curious looker wanting a freebie, I will "sell" it for $50 and cover the shipping. The balance goes to the local No Kill Animal Rescue Shelter in your name. I'll post the name of the "buyer" and the goon squad can if he doesn't buy an A*. Fair enough? PM me with your name and address. In case you are one of my friends, I'm fine and finished my book. It goes to the editor/formatter next week. Back to my lair. Jg

First time filling 5th seat in Aerostar this past weekend. Just over 1000 pounds of pilot, passengers and bags. About 1000 pounds of gogo juice so about 100 pounds under useful load of 2150. 190+ knots Groundspeed at 6500 to South Alabama for 100 gallons of $3.65 gas then 195+ Knots groundspeed at 4500 (smooth ride) to Baton Rouge. FL210 on ride back home at 280-290 groundspeed. I expected to get a bit of ice per pireps and forecast but alas I missed out on using boots once again. NOT a King Air but all passengers said more room and more comfortable than cattle class. One more thing.....NO SQUAWKS

You the man. I got your PM and will have my office manager mail. Just send a check when you think of it.

Yeah, the last week a couple of buddies have posted pics with tailwinds over 100 Kts in the mid 20's.
Wonder what the cabin altitude is when you're up at 27k or 28k in an Aerostar?

5,000 foot cabin at FL210
I have 5.5 PSID Would be 8,000 foot cabin at FL250 49 gph? Is that a typo? If not something is terribly wrong.

Then again, you'd get similar fuel burns if you imposed a ~325 degree CHT limit. It's arbitrary and unnecessary IMO, but hey, whatever floats your boat. Wow. That's eye-opening. It's been years since I've flown a 700hp version and it was a Super II, which is a strange bird, but I'm pretty sure we planned 44 gph in cruise. I think I'll change my wish list to the 601P. I know we can get 210 kts on 36 gph or less if LOP. Thanks for the reply.

Stewart,
I used to have a 700. (Well a 602 upgraded to almost everything possible from AAC. When I sold it, there were only two mods I did not have. KFC 225 and Winglets.)
Anyway, with the 700/702 you have a choice. You can run ROP 65% and see ~230 to 235 KTAS in the flight levels (go fast mode) with between 45-50 GPH. I was normally closer to 46. Or you can run closer to 28 GPH LOP at 50% and see ~210-215 KTAS. If going really long range I have pulled power back to 40% or so, at @24 GPH and get 190 KTAS.
This allowed me to use go fast mode when headed west into the wind; or fly non-stop from Dallas TX to DC; by pulling back the power and enjoying the tail wind.
Tim
