Just to make sure we are making a fair comparison, do you have de-ice boots? I'm pretty sure Forrest does. I do, Forrest's numbers seem sightly better than what I get but I don't have winglets. From my non-scientific survey (i.e. discussions) with other 601P owners, boots seem to have a speed penalty somewhere around 10 knots.

Glenn, you, of course, :D know that I don't have boots and bring up a good point.

The funny thing about my A* performance is that a non-intercooled bird should be faster at low to medium altitudes. Below, 8,000, mine shows the speed deficit but it disappears almost magically at around 10 and I get non-intercooled book numbers. It appears that I simply have a fast airplane. l like that. :thumbup:

For those of you watching what it is like to own an aerostar I was about at the end of the annual when they said, what is this leak? At first we thought it was the waste gate controller but unfortunately the oil was coming out of the turbo (a turbo that worked fine) so today I bought a new turbo, a gasket set and the check valve. It was ugly but we will be flying again in a few days. That is the beauty of the plane --- support.

I was pretty sure you didn't have boots but wasn't 100% certain. Some Aerostar are just faster than others. It is nice to have one of them :thumbup:

Yesterday on Roanoke approach I heard two Aerostars on frequency on the same time. Flying back today there was another Aerostar on frequency. I arrived back home and my hangar neighbor told me he decided to buy an Aerostar. The A*s seem to be coming out of the woodwork.

Look at the prices on them. I'm surprised that there are any for sale at what's being asked.

It's hard to beat an Aerostar for that money. AMAF, I don't think it can be done. :cheers:

There are a lot of Aerostar's out there that are really cheap because they requires a lot of very expensive work that has been long neglected not to mention the usual big ticket items like runout engines. Go price out a pair of U2A's overhauled, remans, rebuilt's or replacements and see what you come up with and don't forget the install price including accessories like the four turbos, air pumps etc. not to mention the incidentals like fuel, hydraulic hoses, clamps and so on. Did I mention airframe inspection? :ohno:
You can drop 3-400g's into a really cheap Aerostar or Baron for that matter in a heart beat without even thinking about it.

I'd rather not think about it. :doh: That being said, my airplane had had pretty good support before I purchased it. I spent about $15,000 addressing a list of "attend to's" that were generated by an inspection by Ken Bacon. Since then, not much of anything but "normal" maintenance.
