My dad has a nice A36TN with tip tanks, have flown it about 3hrs in the last two days in some decent wind/turbulence. It’s a rock solid airplane, and flies like a Beechcraft product…. Love that airplane. But wow I have a new appreciation for my winglet/yaw damper equipped 601P, the aerostar is in a whole different class of airplane when it comes to handling turbulence.

Go fly a bonanza in the same conditions you’ll be surprised… I was. I had a 600 before my 601P, it did a nice job too, the P is 400lbs heavier than what my 600 was (also has kfc200 with yaw dampener) and that maybe helps it a little.
When your high and pressurized you often times find mountains below you, they have a tendency to make bumps haha

For those of us flying the 600 below twelve and slugging our way through the weather, they're great airplanes but they do bounce around. I try to get all the radios set up before descent for landing because in windy conditions it can be quite a ride. To the point that it can be tough with a 750 Txi to tune the radios it's bouncing so much. The downside of touchscreens.
It doesn't fishtail or yaw but it sure does have a washboard ride through wind sheer. Well, even the high and mighty pressurized airplanes have to land eventually :-)

I want to do it so bad in my 601P, but I keep getting chicken that I’ll miss a run away egt alarm or something while I’m cruising distracted. I’m sure I’ll get the compulsion to figure the LOP thing out sometime, I know my first step is I need to wire my Fuel flow into my JPI790 so I can record fuel flow with the egt and review the data log, then sort out injectors etc.
I pretty much just burn the gas and take the speed like the junkie I am. Fast is good and I have no problem burning 16+ gph but in order to get range and reserves I often run it like the book says at best economy i.e. peak, or lean of peak. Before there was the “church of lean of peak” there was still a flight manual and it seems to work well for me. I have an Aux tank now so might be able to go fast and far.

I need to figure out how to add that song in to my next YouTube video ha!
Think I’m gonna do a LOP vs Peak TIT video on my way to SW Kansas tonight.

Think I’m gonna do a LOP vs Peak TIT video on my way to SW Kansas tonight. At 2200/24” it seems real hard to get a TIT that exceeds 1600. Not that I believe the analog gauges 100% but it all seems to line up. I don’t have the big turbos so not running more than 65%.

Trick the airplane with a little extra fuel and you can go a long ways with full fuel. My longest was a 900 mile trip from Lakeland, FL (KLAL) to Owosso, Mi (KRNP), 905 NM non-stop with a 50 knot headwind for the first half. Block time was 4:30... I departed with 230 gallons FOB...

Common you can do better than 900 miles! I went from MKGW to KLAR non-stop, that is just under 1200.
Tim If I didn't have the family with me, or had a tailwind that would be very easy to do..

Tim Was that a 700 or a 601P? I would have to throttled back significantly to make that distance in my 680.
