Anyone know one in the Northeast? I may get a chance to fly a 500B for a while.

I can't help with your instructor search, but I can assure you that you will love the handling of the 500B!
Have fun!

I have 100 hrs in one. I agree that it's a nice plane.

The insurance is requiring "factory approved training or the equivalent approved by us". Practically, they want a BFR and IPC with an instructor with Commander experience. I'm guessing an instructor with Commander time would satisfy them.

Hello Dennis,
Try Richard Greene at Century Air. http://Www.centuryair.com. Located @ KCDW.
He is approved by most insurance companies to provide multi-engine instruction in many piston twins.

I can commend Bruce Byerly for his knowledge and generosity for new Commander folks. If you view the image of Bob Hoover's Shrike at the Smithsonian, his family name is on the aircraft! I have met turbine owners who rave about him and his expertise....if you need input or are looking for a recip or turbine Commander, track him down at the Naples Jet Center.

Bill Leff is a walking encyclopedia.
An airshow circuit regular, long time T-6 performer, he has a great program of instruction for those joining the ranks of owners/operators of Commanders. He flies and instructs all types of Commanders (including turbine), has instructed at several airlines and is also an AI, so his perspective is invaluable. If you train with him in Dayton, you get hands-on with a Shrike and two 560's, along with a very professional program & materials to accompany his ground school and flight program. As an instructor with a "major airline", I sought serious mentoring and have complete confidence in Bill Leff. He can go to your site, but getting to crawl around several training aids in his hangar is awesome.
I would not own a Shrike had it not been for the help and advice of these two fellows & I can't thank them enough.......
