I see people either LOVE or HATE these planes, and as such I have never given them a second thought. The flight school I use has a SR20 that they rent out, however, as I near the completion of my PPL I have started to do the math and for the speed(150 knots) the price ($229/hr) it would cost only around $50 more to do the same mission (160 mile trip) as it would in a slower (100 knot) and less per hr ($129) plane and I could carry people that would have a harder time getting into/out of the smaller plane.
Therefore I am all of a sudden aware of the SR20.
I see a lot of people have these planes, is there anything in particular about them that makes them good or bad? My CFI LOVES them and keeps trying to get me to get signed off in the SR20 but I was only looking at the hourly rate not the mission rate and now it's not sounding so bad, in comparison to what I was originally conceptualizing it at.

Rik, The Cirrus is a great airplane. Many people love the plane that they currently have or fly, so there is some natural "brand jealousy." Remember that this is a Beech site. I've owned both brands, and loved them both... Spend some time looking up threads here - there are MANY about the Cirrus. Also spend some time on the Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association forum: LOTS of YEARS of info there - https://www.cirruspilots.org/

Sidestick & chute & automation are different than Pipers, Cessna & Beech similar aircraft. Get checked out in the SR20 and decide for yourself. It is always fun learning a new type.

I assume the majority of those are Cessna 172s.
The 172 barely competes with the SR20 and certainly doesn't directly compete with the SR22.
The SR22 completely dominates sales of other 300hp class piston airplanes. How if Cessna brought back the 210.......
-Pascal (currently own C172N, C182Q, T210N, P210N and... half a SR22)

I am test flying a new SR22 on Friday (really)...as I get older and as none of my passengers are pilots, I am finding the chute to be an attractive and possibly life-saving feature. Not trying to anything up (really)

The data GAMA "General Aviation Statistical Databook" http://www.gama.aero/files/GAMA_2014_Databook_LRes%20-%20LowRes.pdf http://www.gama.aero/publications/statistical-databook-and-industry-outlook
If you take out the 'trainers' then yes it is all Cirrus. You can see this on pages 17,18 of the pdf (remember Cessna and Beech are now listed under Textron Aviation)
Trainers dominate volume, and the 172 is losing hold as number one trainer to newcomers like Diamond.
Back to Cirrus: great all around airplane that fits most people's mission. Cirrus is cheaper and faster then most comparables (only makes sense to compare 2005 Cirrus to 2005 of some competitor). It doesn't do things that certain pilots want, but every airplane is a compromise.
I assume from you location you are working with Pat Scalon, who is CSIP.
