Simple Jason, You end up with a very expensive airplane, with a very limited market, and a bankrupt developer. Here is one that tried http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seawind_300CI don't believe the A5 will make, though I would love to have one. I just can't see much of a market for a 200k LSA.

Seamax is very similar, cost a bit less and their sales barely move the needle.

I'm a position holder. The plane is just a toy, for having fun, it's not a traveling machine. But then again no piston or propeller airplane is! I owned a searey and had a lot of fun with it, but they are complete garbage. They are more like ultralights than airplanes. The Icon is really amazing. Night and day difference. It's very McLaren-esque. I don't really need any more toys, but I like the company. I like the principals. I like their attitude, and I really like what they are trying to do for aviation. So, I ordered a plane. They have invited me to come out and visit the factory one production gets started. I spoke with Sean Tucker a couple weeks ago (he is also a position holder). He was just out there and said it's an impressive facility. Will it be a commercial success? I have no clue. But I am looking forward to wrapping my A5 in matte gray camo to match my L39. I really miss having an amphib to terrorize my neighbors on the lake with.

Jeez, don't tell Uncle Sam that my bonanza, twin bonanza, King air and Duke that I flew around for business were toys, he will want a lot of money back.

Geez $200k for that? Not sure you can bring your lunch with 2 and full fuel.
Get a good C185 on amphib. At least you can carry a load at a descent speed.
I predict as soon as it starts producing and delivering it will fold.

Cubcrafters is selling new Carbon Cubs for well over $200K-and the amphibious models will go for even higher. A Husky on amphibs (not an LSA-but certainly a toy) goes for about $300k.
If the Icon is fun to fly, forgiving and safe-I hope it will be successful. There are a lot of older pilots with a lot of cash and no medicals looking for something fun to fly.
