AC system took a nice charge. Ambient of 98dF resulted in air from the vents at 67dF. I'll take it. The system is typical for an aircraft (a little under volume), but it about matches the 421 performance. The Baron had volume to spare.
The #6 CHT issues turned out to be instrumentation only. These engines now run cool across the board in climb and cruise and allow for closed cowl flaps. The #3 CHTs are the hottest and in high power LOP ops with cowl flaps closed they run right around 400dF with a HOT oat.
I climbed LOP from 9,000 to 13,500 at 500 fpm on 16 gph/side indicating about 120kias. This plane climbs very nicely. ROP climbs are 1,000fpm plus all the way up at 135 kias.
The windshield appears to be heating....if only I could find some really cold air to verify for sure.
We added a noise filter to the AC compressor drive motor. It suppressed the whine in the passenger headsets.
I tested a long range cruise setting. 174ktas on 14.1gph/side at 12,000'. The engines were purring at 30/2200 with cool temps and cowl flaps closed. What are those com radios?

A 430w and two King Gold Crown coms. They are higher wattage and typically used in larger aircraft. They are overkill, but I love the range and I like having three coms.
Panel work begins the 28th.

Center Panel rework. I am moving the number two Nav and Transponder to the copilot panel. I'm also doing UMA lights and a bunch of other goodies. By using the 796, I am going to have a very capable panel for a good price.
I will have
Taws Active traffic TAS600 ADSB traffic XM weather and music ADSB weather AHRS (FlightStream210) and touch screen routing and airways with Ipad mini 4 3 coms Dual MFDs 2 GPS...one with battery backup Three music inputs plus Bluetooth audio (music/phone) from the GMA350 Radar Altimeter RDR2000 with vertical profile Stormscope Dual sixpacks with HSIs and 4 slaving units Dual transponders (including a 330es for ADSB out) Stec65
I think this will about do it. It would be a very bad day for me to not be able to aviate, navigate, or communicate. It should all be done around October 9th.

Now that is cool. I didn't realize one could do this.

As long as your hangar is tall enough and the plane on the lift doesn't leak oil.....

Congrats on your purchase...that looks like one sweet example of a Panther; top of the market, I'd have to think. From the small-world department, I've put about 300 hours on this one (actually, I'm flying it in the pic): Attachment: 9d566d5a4b73ccf693a3b29b6110949c0743d05c.jpg It's also a former DEA ship. Others well-covered all of the nice attributes of this aircraft. It's often flown heavy, and it's a respectable performer. Hands down, the smoothest running piston I've ever flown. I only fly it once in a while these days, but always enjoy it. Recently, the panel was upgraded: Attachment: 25C21784-EE0A-4374-84B6-D03D961339B7.JPG No one ever talks about these planes for personal use, but I think you've made an excellent choice.

While racking my brain to come up with points of interest on this aircraft, only one thing has surfaced so far. If it was in the several pages prior, my apologies for missing it. The airplane (at least my SN) has a "little plane", as opposed to a "big plane" fuel capacitance system. In other words, it's worthless when not empty and not full. I scared the kaywrapp out of myself early in my experience by treating the system like a King Air, or whatever. (Adding fuel based off an estimate provided by the gauges) Know thy initial quantity, preferably by watching it run down the wing! That's it for now.

Good afternoon BT, Hello Jesse, and all Navajo drivers. I thought I would revisit this thread. It has been a while since the last post in Sept of 2015. I would love to hear from those that have experience with the navajo panther conversion. How are you liking it compared to the other cabin class twins ( C421, Duke ). Jesse, you have had quite a bit of time with it now. What are your thoughts on it compaired to the C421 that you had before. Any others that would like to chime in, please do. Pricing on these cabin class twins seem to be as depressed as ever. I am still looking and lurking.

 I know of two Navajos in escrow. Both $350k. Don't let the junk fool you.

The navajo is a viable working airplane. You're competing against people who wanna fly it 500 hours/year and purchase price is a minor issue.
