Yes, I know I'm slightly biased and we are living in the jet age, but I still get a grin flying the propellers.

I walked out to the ramp a couple days ago and took off in a plane with over 4 hours fuel in it, 9 seatbelts, covered over 200 NM, climbed to FL350, trued over 290 knots and burned only 480 lbs chock to chock all in less than an hour. 380 pph fuel flow in cruise for both engines. Oh, and it will "go" out of under 2,500' at sea level.

Like a Swiss Army knife . . . or maybe a leatherman is more hip. This technology may come into fashion again next time fuel goes up! Long live the turboprop :D

As you already know, Bruce - Commanders are simply unbeatable Swiss army knifes. They do everything great. Working my way to that Jetprop 840/900/980/1000 as we speak.

Because The TBM can do it just as fast on less fuel and maintenance.

Wow.

FL350 to 200NM? What is the minimum distance for climbing to that high?

Because you would need 2 TBMs to carry 9 people or if you had less people and wanted to go farther the TBM would have to stop. Then you have that engine failure problem!

I think you will find the fuel burn on this commander matches the SETP fuel burn at 290-300kts.

Do you really need 9 seats ? I dont.
Its cheaper for me to put any extra staff on airline.

Yes, mine are family. 9 is min. Parents, 6 kids and nanny. Currently three travel on commercial. The logistics are a serious pain. Co-ordinating private travel and commercial travel as one unit is not easy.

TBM does, which is what I was replying to.

No not really what I really like is the range.

Makes every flight a little less stressful when I have hours of extra fuel!

That's about it.

The general rule of thumb is 1,000 ft for every 10 nm, though I find I often go a bit higher than that. So a 200 nm flight is maybe in the mid 20s. Time spent climbing to FL350 is not worth it. If you have a headwind, that puts you more in the higher wind, and if you have a tailwind, you will need to come down before reaching cruise. So either way, not worth FL350.

This was a test flight, not a "real" flight, so the objective appears to be to get to FL350 and return. They spent only 11 minutes at FL350.
