OK, enough. From now on I want 5% kickback on every P180 used sale as a "discovery" fee. ;)

Re: the comments on the Citation SII with the Williams motors. That plane rocks. It also costs double what my Piaggio did and burns a lot more fuel per mile. Piaggio, I think, still is in the t-prop operating cost realm. Jets definitely seem to shift budgets up a notch.

I was also looking at Citation Ultra's when I bought Piaggio. I just did a round trip to the east coast last week. In Ultra, I would have saved about ~40 min on 7.5 hours total flight time and burned double the fuel. Expensive 40 min, even at current jet A prices.

What's the insurance market like for these? Hull value works in the Avanti I/II favor but 9-10 seats works against it. The PC12 market, for example, has gotten nearly prohibitive for new pilot entrants (vs renewals). My broker told me that there are only 2 markets underwriting Piaggio at present and it is considered a "specialty" risk. I would be curious to get some broker responses to this because the airplane itself seems like a terrific value for the performance.

Joel-
There is a slightly smaller market for the Piaggio with the insurance underwriting carriers due mainly to some of the reasons John L cited in his prior post. That said when you have a logbook like Mark Wyant does - insurance is a non-issue in this airplane :D

Thanks Tom, that's exactly what I'm afraid of ... my logbook looks *just* a little skinnier, even with my M600 time!

How does the market look for mere mortals? Say, someone with 3000 hours and 500 turbine? CFI/Com/MEL/Inst

Should be fine Jay - not a ton of insurers as noted but you should be able to obtain reasonable pricing in my estimation.

It's definitely doable. I'm a mere mortal compared to you and I have a quote with not crazy pricing given today's market and terms I can live with.

Now we need to make the 11 parties in the market for an Avanti "an offer they can't refuse" to buy something else...

I hope to be the third BT operator soon. Have a II under contract and headed to prebuy at ICJ soon. Neal is helping me acquire (of course) and inspecting today. Hopefully he or I can post a photo soon.

I've gotten a tremendous amount of help (and not a little temptation - sort of like free samples from drug dealers) from Adam, Anthony and Mark for which I'm grateful!

Mark,
Do you have a black Mustang as well? I remember seeing one on the ramp at Jet Center in Carlsbad last year with The Saint Logo on the tail.

Yep that was me and that used to be my airplane. Sold it to go faster in a quieter airplane with a cabin 3 times as large for the same fuel flow (LOL).

Here is a pic of my old bird, she was a sweet ride:
