It's optional.

Jon, You're at a turning point on the hedonic treadmill. High levels of happiness and decent margins of safety now. The difficulties will compound (hangar, commute to airport, Capex, new type training, margins of safety). Aggregation of marginal (some significant) costs may reduce your quality of life re: aviation and beyond. This piece of writing changed my life: https://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2018/04/10/hacking-hedonic-adaptation/-J[/quote] Loved the article! But the guy is an idiot for the most part. Typical tree hugger.

I'm squarely right of center, but MMM reached me right after college as I was first making money and was a big force for good re: my mentality. He's definitely a hyperbolic caricature of himself, self-admittedly. That hyperbole is probably why I haven't visited the blog much in the past few years. I have migrated to more mainstream stoic mindset stuff now, and find it helpful. Sorry for the thread drift! -J

Anthony, where did you get it from? Is it new? Does it come from an Avanti that was retired or dismantled? How can I get one? Thanks.

Doing some end of they year clean up. Quick calcs for operating costs show $1380/hr for costs including fuel, maint, hangar, engine program, subscriptions, etc. That's for 132 hours in the last 7 months. Insurance is included for 12 months, so if all else stays the same, overall hourly cot will come down a bit. Does not include capital costs or capital reserves such as paint, interior & avionics upgrades.
Rough numbers, fuel & transient FBO expenses are 35%,, engine program 25%, service 18%, insurance, hangar & subscriptions 23%.
Only real problem I chased was door seal light. Replaced door seal - surprisingly inexpensive.
I budgeted and have in my head $1500/hr. Appears relatively on target, until I need a windshield (next few years), pitch trim actuator, etc...
Everyone loves the Piaggio so far...
