For somebody that has done the training: What is the OEI handling like?

Seems like thrust lines are closer to centerline than a KA but hard to tell.

I was in front of this one flying into FRG today. They are beautiful airplanes. 2 hr 54 min from Palm Beach Florida to Farmingdale NY. Impressive.

What was the total fuel burn for that leg?

Single engine handling is very straightforward. Requires a good push on the rudder but if not excessive and definitely less than mu2. Only takes a small amount of rudder trim to relieve. Seemed much less than other twins I have flown.

On departure, you do need to get flaps up right away as it kind of drags along with flaps out on one. Flaps up and we were climbing away and at 1200fpm, in Denver.

Regarding twin engine climb - I was easily able to maintain 2k fpm in the mid 20s. King Airs don't do that.

ForeFlight and fltplan profiles are pretty accurate in my experience so far.

Big difference in fuel burns based on altitude. Mid 30s seem to be the best trade off for range and speed. At Fl40 I was burning 480lbs and hour going 350kts true. Crazy given cabin is so large.

Fantastic airplane! I have always admired the Avanti 180. So much so I am thinking of buying one. (247JL- 2010 Avanti 180 II)

One question, is it possible to replace the PL21 with the setup like you have here (G600s and GT750s)? Never been a PL21 fan...

Whats your time to climb to FL 400?

Thanks!

Mark

It is not possible to do that replacement. That said, I have flown the II with the Proline and it is a really nice install in the plane. Not sure why, but it ‘felt’ better than in other planes I had been in with it. Switches and everything are perfectly positioned.

Time and fuel to climb chart below. It seems to really like the high 30s. Kind of just scoots right up there. The chart below is for the Avanti I, the II is a little better. I had no problem going direct to FL400 on an ISA +8 day from sea level with full fuel and about 600lbs in the cabin.

Also note, this chart is for the original gross weight on the Avanti I. The II’s are all at 12,100 gross, as are most of the I’s, including mine, via STC.

Anthony reached out to me last year when he was thinking of buying a P180, knowing I'm kinda a big fan. I was able to share a POH I had. Not sure if that helped, but to my great surprise, he went ahead and bought a 1992 P180 Avanti this fall and promised me an early ride in it! So this is the pictorial trip report of that ride from yesterday. We flew from Los Angeles to Denver.

I'll let the pics talk for themselves, but if a ride in this thing was supposed to scare me off, well, it's just done the opposite. These damn things are friggin' amazing! Anthony and I was just grinning from ear to ear during the whole ride.

As for ride, it is whisper quiet in the cabin - I would say as quite or quieter than a jet. We cruised with headsets off for awhile and just the speaker and I could keep a normal conversational tone without problem. Even communicated with the person siting in the back without any problem, barely raising the voice. Cabin is huge, and is just a solid magic carpet ride. Goddamn you Anthony! You've now made me want one even more! ;)

I want to thank Anthony for allowing me to come along for the ride! I loved it! Hope to be able to so on more occasions!

Great fun Adam. Thanks for going. Only thing he left out picture of use was the cabin. We didn’t snap pics yesterday but here is one of my wife standing back there. She is 5’7. Passengers get The best seats in the house!

Sounds pretty great!

What's the W&B situation like with just two in the cockpit, or with full cabin load? Any CG areas to watch for?

What's the inspection regime like, more or less? (e.g. MU2 is 100hr/200hr/1yr/600hr cycles, basically.)

What's the external baggage like? Spacious? Pressurized? Skis?

I assume the thing won't fit in pretty much any T-hangar.... :-(

Sounds like fun.

loading can be a little tricky. I keep 4 50lb lead packs to balance it if I am solo with full fuel. Other than that, not much to worry about. 1300lbs is full fuel useful load. If were doing a trip with a bunch of folks I would leave lead behind.

Baggage compartment is big but not pressurized and skis would have to go down aisle inside. Bathroom and front divan are good places to put stuff too.

Fueling is single point but you need the battery hooked up to open the interconnect. This is problematic bc leaving battery on can drain power over multiple days bc of some sensors off the battery bus. Dumbest feature on the plane.

If carrying 8 people and hunting gear was your mission, there are better planes. If 8 people and normal bags is it, works great.

It’s not as big as you think. Less floor area than a pc12 (I think) but way more than Mitts!

Maint is a b c d check. Better hourly intervals than mitts but some annoying simple AD things you need to have a mechanic check off every few months. The c and d checks are big deals.

That is awesome guys! Beautiful plane, great pane! I could make my 1200 NM roundtrip to/from KWVI nonstop both ways. Aaargh!
