Don't get me wrong - the Collins FMS system is a good system, but their pricing for subscriptions, maintenance, and repair are way out of line in my opinion.

I used the Honeywell/Collins FMS systems throughout most of my professional flying career, but I find the Garmin pricing to be a far greater value and much more palatable. Unfortunately, just like IBM, which once was just about the only show in town in the computer industry, their infrastructure probably just will not let them compete on price. Collins seems to be headed for the same fate.

Tony, would you mind sharing the O/H cost for the overhaul part?

Matt, would you mind sharing the paint cost?

This thread is useless without numbers.

Different Matt but......Just got my invoice for Paint and Interior at Rosewood in Mena. $71K even for my paint scheme.

Full invoice minus any private details are attached in case anyone is interested in comparing. Really came in about the same price for the full Garmin treatment at ICJ.

I bought 1056 out of Europe back in Feb. Its been a long time coming. I have a few pics on Instagram but none of the finished interior and garmin panel. I'll hopefully be down to pick it up sometime next week and will update with current photos.

Two Avanti's hit Controller today.

https://www.controller.com/listing/for-sale/208940965/2010-piaggio-p-180-avanti-ii-turboprop-aircraft 2010 Looked like a very good value at first - but doesn't appear engines are on program and are nearing HSI/OH

https://www.controller.com/listing/for-sale/208966917/2004-piaggio-p-180-avanti-turboprop-aircraft 2004 is a I with Garmin panel

Yikes, that 2004 model almost has 10k hours. Doesn't the airframe have a 12k or is it 15k life limit? But if the price is right it could be a good plane for a few years.

The 2004 is probably an Avantair plane with that many hours. They can be good but the devil is in the details (of recertification).

The 2010 is 18 numbers newer than mine with 3x the hours. I love the price!

Found out today another person in my orbit got a Piaggio - I took them for a ride when they were interested so naturally I take credit for their eventual purchase!

I really wish Piaggio would just hire me as a contract sales person/demo pilot. I think I have helped nudge 5 people over the line in the last year or so ;-). This thread has probably done more to help that company than any marketing ever could.

Was fighting 90 knots on the nose yesterday at FL320. Was truing out at 384kt though so it wasn't too bad. Given the wind gradient, I had a faster groundspeed than a CJ2 over the leg length assuming they would have been flying at FL380 to get the required range.

Structural life limit is 15000 FH.

Ice on an airplane is a no no. A tiny bit of frost on a donkey 172 with an all ready crazing paint job is not that big of a deal.
Really heavy (1/8") frost on an Avanti...NOSIRREEBOB

-1 C when we arrived at airport with sun rising. Let one side melt (half an eternity~30 min) then taxied to fuel pump exposing the other side. Filled up (2830 pounds) with cheap fuel while all the frost melted and departed for home.

ISA -4 at FL330 seeing 384 true made me wish I had left 800 pounds lighter to attempt 400 knots at FL290 or 310. Another time maybe.

After about 30 min I climbed to FL350 and pulled power back to book setting of 67.7 torque. 291 lbs per side. Why?...just so I could say I pulled back power....once :D

ITT around 755 and speed close to 360. ISA went up to +4.

Brad, do you normally put the pitot covers while parked under that frost?
