Off topic, but how bad was the 599?

Just got off the phone with a service center in NorCal. Wanted to find out what the C and D checks cost on the P180: 1. C check has to happen every 1800hrs and is 300 man hours to do. At their current shop rate of $113/hr that's a cost of $34K (excluding any parts, of course). 2. D check has to happen every 3600hrs and he said "they basically take the whole airplane apart", so it's a whopping 770 man hours. That should set you back a healthy $87K at same shop rate. These two, according to my calculations, makes for an operational cost of $44/hr for 3600hrs in addition to everything else. I think the A check is just a rather simple inspection, not sure how involved the B check is but I assume it's more like an annual/phase. Good thing for low utility users like a private owner is that it seems it has no calendar items, only time based items. But the guy I talked to was in a hurry, so not entirely sure it doesn't have calendar items. I keep chipping away at the info (kind of sick of aviations lack of transparency). One day maybe this thread might help someone somewhere. Probably myself mostly until I'm cured of my childish dream...

Mike c could turn this into 400 pages of why someone should never build a turboprop that flies where the Jets belong.....

Adam, I'm interested.........let's figure out how much it costs to run and operate one of these things. Here's the rough Conklin Decker numbers. Given our frugalness, we should be at least half of that. Attachment: z_Piaggio.png 400knts is pretty damn tasty if you ask me!!!!!!! How about a POH and let's figure out the true landing/stopping distance at high elevation fields. I'm smitten just like you............let's get some of this koolaid into our system.

I knew you'd come around, Penman! I'm waiting to speak to two owners that I got connected with through Turbine Options Inc (who have been super helpful). I've got a pretty clear picture of the timed items, the calendar items and the costs involved with those, but just need a little more real world numbers. Which I'm hoping these guys can provide - both are apparently pretty hands on owners. Watch this space. As for the speeds, you won't get 400kts out of the Avanti I. It has the -66 engines and they run out of steam earlier. Expect 380kts out of that one. To get 400kts, you need the Avanti II or Evo with the -66B engines. The Avanti II and Evo comes with the PL21 (for good or bad, depending on what side of the fence you are). That said, the Avanti I can be upgraded to -66B engines. I think it's just a mod in the engine to make it not temp out as early. As for runway use, I keep hearing they need a lot of rwy, but when you look at numbers, it doesn't seem so bad. But maybe they do heavy and high. There's a POH online, but you need to pay for it and I'm to cheap to do it. Here's a short field landing at SL:
