Headed to Louisiana Wednesday with light load and low temps I decided to try FL400.
Bit surprised to see TAS settle at 355 then climb slowly to 359.
Weight when I took pic around 9,400.

Had the rare headwind from Denver to PA today so I flew at FL410 to make reserves work.

Pretty much a direct climb up. Temps were ISA or plus minus a few degrees the entire way.

Great efficiency up there and quite quiet.

I don’t know why, but my engines are better matched at FL410 than at FL370.

That’s sweet, 353ktas on 478pph is 1.35lb/nm.

I was making 372ktas on 580pph at FL370 this weekend, 1.56lb/nm which I thought was quite good. But 1.35 is fantastic.

Gotta try higher soon. What was your takeoff weight?

TO was 11175lbs.

I crept up to 360tas as I burned off more fuel. Speed seemed to move by 3 or 4 knots per ISA degree up there.

I climbed at 800, accelerated, then pulled to 780-785 for rest of flight.

It was just me, my ballast bags and fuel. I have done FL410 with a heavier cabin in the past and it slowed down a little.

It was very odd having a 50kt headwind pointing straight east.

Anyone have a parts breakdown of the pilot seat? The seat never adjusted properly and finally got around to looking at it more and the lower right-hand angle bracket is broken.

The MM doesn't break down the seat into part numbers. I've called a few places looking for a full seat but only found one for 14K.

Any if you Garmin planes have the intelligence button with your GTN?

Working on the seat today with another person who asked how I liked the voice command, to which I said I "I don't have that with my setup". But I was curious and went back and looked as its listed on my invoice when the work on the G600/GTN was done. Though it might be a feature list of the GTN/GMA350 and not a statement on installation.

I haven't ever used it before but it appears a separate button gets installed on the yoke to listen for commands. I don't have any such button.

Any of you guys have it?

Yes, I have it. “Telligence” I think they call it. My button is on the pilots yoke, right under the autopilot sync button (right thumb), and is labeled PTC (Push To Command is my assumption). Push and hold it while you speak a limited (but large) set of commands it recognizes.

It is mixed. I feel I don’t know enough commands yet, and being something of a visual (not aural) learner is making it hard for me to be motivated to learn them. But I have a couple I have used that I find handy compared to trying to go out through the Home Screen and then into whichever icons. “Show Fuel Planning Page” and “Show destination weather page” are a lot quicker than their equivalent menu strokes. I’m slowly learning more.

It works about 80% accuracy. Once in a while a command that works most of the time produces something completely wacky.

I do find it nicer in turbulence. I have actually been finding myself not that fond of the touchscreen interface since it is easy to touch the wrong thing and put the screen in “graphical edit mode” without noticing.

I've had it on two planes, and I don't use it. I think I really did give it a fair shake.

When I'm under the gun, I want things that work 100% of the time. 90% doesn't cut it for me. Perhaps my voice warbles just a bit under pressure.

My reply would be almost exactly the same as Jon's. It's a great concept, I've had it in three planes. I should use it more than I do...it's just rarely my first thought. Typically when I think "to do" something in the plane, it's a physical action. Maybe I should start thinking of that switch on the yoke first.

I don't think it's something specifically I old/paid IJSC to do. When I got the plane I asked them about it...they said "we didn't wire up the switch", which they did the next time I was in the shop. It's the switch "EFIS ET."
