I ran my Garrett’s at 100% all the time. Limit per srl was 650 and I used 640.

If I ran my Piaggio at 810 everywhere it would be 8-10 kts faster.

Given engine programs don’t know what temps you run, and they are offered in this case by the mfg, I highly doubt running at me near limit significantly curtails engine life.

The -66 engine is also used on the TBM. There, the literature is clear that continuous operation above 790C is permitted, but not recommended. TBM pilots push it to 820 when it really counts (eg climbing through icing with the separator deployed) but few people seem to run them continuously above 790C. But exactly what happens 790 < x < 820 is unclear.

Jon - I have heard something similar about ‘upgraded burner cans’ on the -66. Wonder if that’s what you are referencing.

Totally could be. I’m trying to figure out the tech details of what I was really being told.

As for 790, I don’t know enough to make a decision informed by engineering. Other than I am pretty sure I don’t want to have to overhaul if I can avoid it.

Hi everyone, I wanted to introduce myself as the new owner of sn 1080. (Hi!) It's getting some upgrades at Intercontinental at the moment.

Has anyone here flown theirs to Europe, and if so, might you dm me? I'm going to do that (with a mentor pilot) late April/early May and had a couple questions. Super grateful for any thoughts. Because I'm going to be in Europe for 90 days, I was planning to fly our dogs with us, but it's possible that neither Greenland nor Iceland will even let them off the plane for a potty break. :( So I'm really trying to understand realistic travel times betw Canada to Ireland/Norway to see if I need to find an alternate path for them.

Also, I sadly report that the P180 eAFM W&B app is no longer available in the app store. It doesn't meet Apple's current requirements. That also means that if you own the app and upgrade to a new ipad, you won't be able to get it on the new device. I emailed the author and he told me he doesn't currently plan to support it. He used to own a Piaggio but sold his. Guess I will be carrying two ipads for awhile!

Hi Ed, congrats! I too noticed the lack of eAFM app…

Ed,

I'm glad you got the plane purchased! Where will you be headed to in Europe? I'm going to be in southern France for three months myself beginning early April. I'm taking American however...

Thanks, Tony!

We're planning to travel around Europe quite a bit, and with 2 kids under 2 and 2 dogs, commercial didn't seem like an awesome solution. ;) I just have to get the dogs over there in the first place!

Keep the thread updated on your experiences. I thought I had heard from others dogs to EU require some sort of quarantine.

While there are requirements (eg microchip, rabies, etc), most all EU countries do not have quarantine. Iceland definitely has a 14-day quarantine, at least when coming from the US.

I just came back from Switzerland. Very dog friendly. Dogs from USA need health papers but no quarantine. Most hotels and restaurants allow dogs to come in with their owners. Even in rather fancy places, dogs were lying under tables while their people dined.
Not sure about other countries.

We learned that there are laws on the books that you cannot have a dog in Reykjavik. I don't know if that is enforced.

I was ashamed of my posted speed so enlisted the detail crew (myself and two sons) to wipe down the plane today. The surface was "rough" everywhere with a good dust/dirt layer. It's now smooth. I think someone posted awhile back that this can slow the plane significantly.

@ Jon C, here's the best best Piaggio cockpit idea of all time...holds the odds & ends you need a place for. Sunglasses, pens, airport security badges, chapstick, tip money...

Yeah, that’s cool. My center console was shortened when the Garmin install was done though, so don’t currently have a place for that. But maybe I will build myself a small bin that I can stick on the aft end of my console. And I have a skinny spacer that maybe I could squeeze a skinny bin insert into. I think it’d be tricky though, that space is small.

Move the trim panels forward (remove the spacer), mount the GCU485 on a smaller plate, and you should have room for a nice pocket

Yeah, that’d work.

How is the GCU485 attached on Matt’s picture, I wonder? He doesn’t have the Dzus (?) fasteners in the edges, somehow the GCU is in the rails without those. That would help me reduce the amount of space the GCU takes.

Simple answer. Similarly to how the GTN is mounted. Insert the special screwdriver and turn for a bit.

Apparently I have the only failed GCU of all time…that’s how I know.
