I'm sitting at KPHL now as my AA flight continues to get delayed. I walked up to the earlier flight to see if I could get on...gate agent was very nice and helpful and said sure, we can get you on. A few minutes later "sorry, computer won't let it work, I tried..."

Dropped my Avanti I off for paint at Sureflight in Coatesville PA today. For anyone that follows Premier1 driver it's where he had paint done. I've worked with them before and they are just awesome people. I'm excited for the end product. There is a decal on the outside and I was thinking of asking them to remake it as an "Avanti IIIG" (new P&I & Garmin).

These planes are just awesome. Non-stop this week from Phoenix to Columbus, 1300lbs of people & stuff, landed with tight but comfortable VFR reserve, 4 hours, approx 350 gallons. Nice tailwind but nothing crazy, PHX kept me low for some time.

I'm sensing Anthony is heading for a jet...if anyone is looking for the most economical, high speed, high payload turbine aircraft I'd start lining up at his door.

Sorry if this has been answered before but how does the avanti to in terms of lbs/nm/hr?

This is about the limit at high speed cruise. That’s about .6?

No jets for me Matt! Costs are just too high and there really are not too many benefits. Plus, I really love flying the Avanti!

I typically see about 260ish a side at FL360-380 and 250-360 true. Yesterday I needed a stop, weather was nice so I stayed low at FL 300 for trip to KSTS with stop at KABQ. It was more like 350/side. It was more like 370-377. I don’t pay attention to Mach but noticed .62 at one point.

You can spend a lot more opex and capex to get a couple more seats (if you need them) a very small increase in speed or range and a less attractive cabin in a larger “light” jet. Or you you can spend a huge amount more in opex/capex in a medium body jet to get that with a cabin of the same or bigger size of the P180. Avanti sits is a really unique place in the market for speed/range/costs/comfort.

That is impressive. 441 seems to be about the same at 350, but it is going slower and has a smaller cabin. C340 is about 7nmpg, but gets crushed in a headwind.

Happy birthday to one of the most innovative aircraft made! Development, as I recall, started in the 70's and was a response to the energy crisis. It's amazing that almost 50 years after its conceptualized inception, with the low drag 3-lifting surfaces, it's still the most efficient plane out there.

Love how the Italian test pilot not only tucks the gear in first thing, but then rolls into a standard rate turn at like 400ft on its first flight! No fu*ks were given there! Viva Italia!

Putting in the miles this fall. Lots of 1300nm legs. Cooler temps in the flight levels have been nice to see. Speeds picking up a little as a result. Have also had a string of real approaches. I am amazed how stable this plane is in actual. Hand flying is very low workload to stay on speed and attitude.

Last weekend I realized IFR currency would expire in a week without a hold so I went out and flew one with a friend. As I was entering the hold we tried to change something in the gtn750 and cleared everything, including the holding fix. Stopwatch and heading was all I had to work with. As attached screenshot shows, I still managed a nice racetrack even though I didn’t know where the fix was. Good training for partial panel and great illustration of how stable this plane is when hand flying

Trip up to New York tomorrow. Calling for Broken 300. Last time I landed with weather up there broken 900 on ATIS turned out to be OV400 so I thought a little training flight today was in order. Plus I wanted to work on short field landings a bit.

Hand flown GPS almost to mins then transition to short field landing.
First time I have used brakes right after engaging reverse. Stopped in about 3000 feet (From runway threshold) with light to medium braking.

Using brakes a bit on landing got my carbon brakes good and warm which allowed me to go to full power on takeoff with ZERO creep. Good to know If brakes are hotter she will hold for short field take offs. Short field is relative in Avanti....obviously

Flew autopilot to ILS 20 in Concord down to 200 and autopilot go around. I Had not practiced go around since Flight Safety.

Back to my home drone for short field landing.

Stopped on runway in 2500 feet with medium braking.

6-8 knots headwind
Weight 9800 pounds on landing
density altitude 2200 feet
Temp around 82

Good training day

Brad,

I'm curious what airport you plan to use if you're going to NYC? Gotta go there late next month.
