Flew about 3200 miles over yesterday and today. Amazing how low the fatigue is. Great machine. Pax loved it and got some work done too. Amazing! I noticed your placard that says your G600 altitude information is not approved for RVSM navigation. What do you use for RVSM altitude, and how is it fed into the autopilot?

Anthony, please forgive me but I would like to highlight some aspects just to warn that the situation can be a bit different than what you describe. Piaggio do know the P.180 airframe RVSM calibration curves, both the original and the updated ones (ref. the EASA Avanti II AD). Piaggio is not obliged to "release" anything. They can sell the curves, if anyone is asking to buy them. They can elect to provide the curves free of charge, for some marketing reasons. But there must be someone that is going to invest money to certify their products embedding those data. The process is not so straightforward as copying a file from an USB stick, otherwise it should already be completed. I don't want to side with anyone, just to give a clear idea of the situation, and I wish you that this will end as you told us soon. Daniele

I had that wind the other day going the opposite direction! But coming home, of course it had changed.

Yup, you are correct. ICJC is working on an STC to solve which I am sure I involves then laying Piaggio, which will then involve me paying ICJC.
Worth it though. Can’t say enough good things about the plane and the Garmin panel is excellent for single pilot.
If they put Garmin in from factory and reduced pedestal size, I think they would take CJ market share. Cabin is just so much more comfortable.

Username Protected wrote: Amazing Anthony. And they say they're short legged? In fact, now that I look back on all the brokers who's minds I picked about them a few years back, I realize they probably actually didn't know very much about them at all. One of the most common things they repeated was that they're short legged and you could barely squeeze 1000nm out of them. Not if you actually plan a little. Adam, First. Most brokers have no clue about Avanti. Especially many who are selling them! Second. You have 2800 lbs, or a bit more, of fuel. Distance all comes down to how high, how hot, how heavy, how fast and how tough the weather is in determining range. I can do 1200 nm at high speed cruise in the mid thirties with 4 and bags with up to 40 knots of headwind and IFR approach at arrival class D with 600 lbs on landing. More HW than that and I have to stop. With tail winds going home nonstop is easy and could probably get close to Anthony's performance. You can, of course, pull the levers back and really stretch it out in quiet, low vibration, comfortable cabin with a 5-6.5k cabin above the weather. Third. Some controllers don't know what the plane can do either. Especially LA area. And they can really hurt you with ridiculous step climbs. Last month it was 5,7,9,11,13, etc. into the 20's sucking fuel but barreling along.

As one of the aforementioned brokers, (who has spoken with some of you) I get asked about P180 range all the time. My answer is always the same. It is a SOLID 1000 mile “regional” airplane, but you can stretch it out depending on conditions and load. So based on Tony’s real world example, I’m not too far off.... I would rather under promise slightly, and have a buyer pleased rather than pissed off when he can’t do it after he bought it. If that makes me stupid, guilty as charged!
