I don't really think it is fair to remove the benefit from the risk/benefit equation. If you do that, no one flies any more since there is no benefit. Further, a pilot who claims they follow your advice to ignore the benefit is lying to themselves. The end goal always factors into the decision, even if it subconsciously. If so, might as well be honest with ourselves and acknowledge that. There are definitely days I would fly on an important business trip, and would not fly just for "fun". Mike C.
