Teaching new pilots to activate this safety device should be easy- its one of my favorites. Seriously, i wonder if Cirrus Training addresses the idea that schedule flexibility in a light plane is the best safety item you can add to the trip? And with a little advanced planning is often not that costly.

I bet if they could effectively convince new pilot/ cirrus buyers to "wait it out early and often" as they seem to have done with the CAPS activation they could materially reduce the fatality rate for that group going forward.

It's not Cirrus pilots who need to improve their safety record. They are way ahead of the rest of us with recent data.

I did not mean to imply that cirrus pilots had a worse safety record, quite the opposite, their safety record appears to be enviable. I was just opining that the next big leap forward for that particular cohort might be to indoctrinate a mentality of planning for schedule changes to accommodate weather- if they do not already do so. And drawing the analogy to what seems to be favorable results from refined CAPS ADM training.

Best safety device in any aircraft is the parking brake.

Set the brake until issues/questions/doubt are resolved.

I have a buddy who's a pretty hard core biker. We were at a bar a few years ago when he told me that a bunch of them were heading out back for a safety meeting. When it finally dawned on me that that made no sense, I went to check it out. Apparently, that's their code word for sitting around smoking a joint. :D

I'll stick to booze. And I'm not flying tonight. :cheers:
