I had my first demonstration flight in a 421 today and all I can say is that I get it why all the 421 advocates love them!!!!..

Some of the highlights:

1:WOW they launch like a Bat out of hell!!!( 3 men on board, probably 130 gals, temp of 60 degrees)

2: SOOOOOOOO smooth and quiet..

3: When you put the throttles to idle and the those big props go to fine pitch, its like hitting the brakes.

4: Did I mention how comfortable and BIG they are !!

421 is the best travel airplane that burns gasoline.

The GTSIO-520 engine is very good.

The 421 is an awesome airplane. As said, roomy, fast, quiet, powerful and has a potty. The nose baggage is cavernous! You can put more "stuff" in that airplane than you can get into a Suburban SUV when you land.

The GTSIO engines are great engines with an unfounded bad rap. They run cool, cylinders last longer than their non-geared counterparts and they are powerful! Now that they have thicker cases and the starter adapters are inspected, they run to TBO and beyond.
