Hi Guys, Last weekend at the Aerostar Owners Association meeting, I got a ride in the Aerostar Jet. All I can say is WOW! I admit that I was pretty skeptical before flying it but now I think that this really is the plane that Eclipse SHOULD have built. We had 4 adults +my 6 year old (50 lbs) on board and we were getting 4,500-5,000 ft./min climb. It is basically an Aerostar merged with the engines from a Citation Mustang. With the exception of being quieter, a single power lever for each engine and a LOT more power I wouldn't be able to tell the difference from my Aerostar. It flew EXACTLY like my plane. In go fast mode, it should get 380+Kts. However, I was told that at 700P speeds (240-250Kts) on a typical trip, the fuel burn will be similar to the piston version! I asked Jim Christy regarding fuel capacity/payload and he told me that the ultimate plan is 300gal total with a full fuel payload of 890 lbs. It is still experimental but they are working hard on getting it certified. How much? They are saying 1.6M to upgrade an existing airframe and they could tool up and produce completely new ones for 2.5M. Fred Eisert said it best in another thread. The ride was terrible, now my plane seems slow. Unfortunately, I can't afford one ...yet! Hello everybody, first post here; be gentle. Why building a Jet Aerostar and not a Turboprop Aerostar (twin or single)? I would imagine a turboprop has advantages on CAPEX and OPEX over a Jet, and within the flight envelope of the Aerostar fuselage, Jet advantages are not so important (I´m guessing here).

And the ASI was pretty darn high through all that too (ASI w/o a barberpole - not used to seeing that when also hearing turbine sounds....)

I heard there was early talk of aft mounted turbofan engines for the Aerostar, as well?
