I don't disagree at all. It's still a small segment of their business though and they are likely going to need more than a nudge to start thinking differently.

That might allow you to do a 20 minute download without plugging in. (Collins PL21) How about a battery and a wireless transmitter that automatically downloads the updates while the aircraft is parked. If the download hasn't taken place 24hrs before expiration, the operator gets an email alert.

Why is it so easy for Garmin? Makes no sense. Don't want to hijack the thread, but is this typical of all PC-12/Honeywell systems? We're looking at a PC-12 and this would be the 4th different update program. BTW: The BE-400 still uses five 4.5" floppy disks to load an update. (try finding those these days) Takes about 40 min per FMS to do the job.

Europeans tend to design things with the "crew" as an afterthought. Take a look at European Boats compared to US built boats.... Crew quarters are crap. Same philosophy with their airplanes I think.
Simple software changes could make the PC12NG much more owner pilot friendly. It wouldn't take much.

Why is it so easy for Garmin? Makes no sense. I realize you're comparing Garmin to Honeywell, but I sure wouldn't call the Garmin experience "so easy". Maybe newer Garmin units are better, but for my 530 I have to use Garmin's proprietary card and plug it into their proprietary reader and use crappy software on a computer (which had to run Windows until a month ago). All this for literally a couple of megabytes of data. And I'm supposed to do it every month.
