All good clean fun. That was around 2009. My last landing in a C185 before that was 1992. Just goes to show it’s like riding a bike

Just an opinion from watching the video. In a 180, you have to make a decision: three point or wheel landing. You set up for each differently. That airplane was "betwixt and between". He had a good crosswind but not enough to make much difference. Either method would have worked had he been in proper position. I agree that you three point the Skywagon when you screw up the wheel landing. Pretty much what he did on the second pass, I think. Jg

He was here for a backcountry flying course. His buddy in a maule with tundra tires used at least 2000 feet of a 3500 foot runway to get it tamed. Old timer next to me says “just cuz you own one doesnt mean you should actually fly it”. Thankfully those planes stayed tied down the next day due to the intense 6 knot crosswind. Apparently, they had other pressing matters.

I’ve found that more folks can buy an airplane but fewer have the time to hone the skills.

I would posit that the analogy extends to biker lawyers and doctors wearing hell's angels insignia. That does not mean that I cannot come to grief with my own airplane. I just try to stay humble and awake at all times.

This was Sarg landing at Lake Alabaster during our same week of fun together. Sarge wasn’t sure when the last aircraft had landed there other than it was YEARS. We took Sarg’s old 2 stroke Briggs and Stratton lawn mower and a whipper snipper in and spent half a day mowing it because the NZ C180/185 club wanted to do a fly in there the following week. I totally agree in the landing video. In my opinion , he made the correct decisions to go around, in his first landing attempt. Good for him for NOT trying to force it or salvage it.
And nice job in the off airport landing,( down under. ) ( I am hoping I can get back soon )
