If I had a jet I might fly 250 hrs as there are some east coast trips I don’t do bc the slog into the wind is exhausting after a long work day and if I need to work the next morning I am stuck airlining it.
I don’t know how you fly more than 250hrs AND be a full time ceo or equivalent. Granted, my workload appears to be higher than many, it is by no means extreme. Flying 300+ hrs would be spending a ton of time in the air. Obviously I am talking about owner flown. I could always hire someone and sit in the back and sleep. That doesn’t sound fun to me. I get a lot of decompression time in the air and love being somewhere where I cannot be “found”.
A jet would be cool but they don’t save that much time over 300kt tpops. Wish they did, it would be easier to justify spending more money :-) Anthony nailed it, unless you are using the aircraft in the course of business every week... it’s really hard to fly that many hours if you’re running a company. I think it’s pretty cool that some, like Jason, can run a corporation, generate enough revenue to not only own an airplane but spend that much time in it. Impressive.

I was doing about 250 hours a year in the 340 and figured when I got the CJ that would drop according. I’m now doing 350 hours a year. One of the big advantages on the CJ is the reduction in fatigue / stress that it provides. Flying high over the weather the vast majority of time with no vibration of props etc has a major impact on the body and mind. Fatigue on the mind is lessened which helps me as a CEO. Speed is not the only consideration. Andrew

I don't think 300 hours a year is a lot. I never ever ever fly commercial. I don't care what the headwinds are, flying the Pilatus is faster. That said, I don't do 1 night, 2000NM trips. I won't do 1 night 1000NM trips. If I'm going that far I'll find other places to hit while I'm out there and make several nights out of it. I can't think of a bigger waste of time than 1 night, 1000NM+ trips. Even Commercial it's a total waste of time and not something someone running a company should be doing. The iPhone changed my life in terms of having to be in an office. I can get everything done on the road.

That said, young kids and desire to be with them drives short trips more than anything else. My kids are 6 and 4. Every extra evening or morning with then is a bonus. I will gladly fly home 1400nm into the wind so I can drive them to school the next morning. As they get older and inevitably want to spend less time with me, I am sure I will find other places to stop and break things apart. But then my wife will complain more/-). I have a 17 year old that's lived with me his whole life. I've been living the life for a long time. I know the drill. The point of my post was "commercial isn't faster". I do lots of 500NM day trips. Those are no big deal. For the record, I've learned that driving your kids to a from a building every day where they sit and listen to some idiot drone on and on about how the world works is a colossal waste of time too. Everything can be learned online now.

Lots of unis now offer everything online, including lectures. You don’t need to leave home.
Personally I think it was more fun back in my day when there were lots of other students to interact with - now it’s lots of empty theatres

Fair enough.
Though I still think that the uni experience is not as complete when you are barely on campus.

The process my son is going through of picking a University and really working towards "getting in" is important. It's something he knows he wants and he has to work for it. K-12.... I could teach myself in half the time.

^^ This ^^ Much lower noise, cabin altitude of 5-6000', shorter trip time, much reduced weather avoidance stress, solid IFR platform. No lunch is free however (its stupid expensive) but I am much more productive when I arrive plus I can get some low-level work done during the flight which I never could with the Baron.

It is not because I want people to think I'm somehow special - I try to keep a very low profile with the airplane (no facebook pics allowed!). It is not because I want to sit in the back and party (I've never been back there). It is not even because I want to pilot a jet (I was an airline pilot and I've had my fill). It is a time machine, I'm 54 and my time here is limited, anything I can do to get more back is a good deal even if it seems stupid financially. Are you my long lost twin brother..? I didn't fly for the airlines but everything else is identical including age and the strict "no facebook pics" request to my family and friends.

Flying commercial sucks so bad I'd pay anything to not have it in my life. Everything goes before the airplane goes.

+1
No commercial if I can avoid it. Even my wife now complains if we have to fly commercial. Keeper!
And time is a limited resource. I agree, it’s precious as we can never get it back.

Even if it takes a little more time flying my own airplane sometimes..... I love flying my own airplane and the process of it all. I absolutely loathe flying commercial and having to be around all those people at the "big airport". Hell to me is "standing in line". There's nothing worse.
