Aircraft: Warbirds
Interesting Fighter Conference held in 1944. I believe more than 40 Fighter pilots from various branches and Aircraft Company Test Pilots participated. 30 items were covered and highlights of the voting is shown in the result page.
I don't know the nuances of the participants and what bias is shown due to percentage of AAF vs Navy vs Test Pilots that were a part of this.

F4u in the list was a later F4U-4 with later C series R-2800 rather than the earlier F4U-1/FG-1 series.

Also no F8F Bearcat which would've skewed the results.

Of all the military fighters and bombers that have ever been produced?

What is your favorite Military Bomber?

What is your favorite Military Fighter?

These couple photos should pretty much cover it: P51 and B17

I was in AFROTC with probably one of the last guys to be assigned that airplane out of UPT!
He was commissioned in '85 IIRC.
Sound about right?

Hell, I love the tweet! What a piece of history! I can only imagine the fun of those big motors in that little jet. Sweet ride for sure.

UPT grads that were assigned FAC aircraft, O-2, OA-37, OV-10, OA-10, were guaranteed a fighter after their initial FAC tour. For example, the guy on the left went on to fly F-15's and is now a captain for a major airline. The guy on the right is a retired airline guy. Photo was taken in '84 in Honduras whose AF was still flying F-86's at the time so your friend may have been one of the last assigned to the Dragonfly. They switched to OV-10's and later to OA-10's.

The A-37 had T-38 engines (J-85) without the afterburner and was in some ways more fun to fly than the F-4.

Kevin Grove was his name if that rings a bell with any of the USAF BT's.
It was my understanding that his first assignment was Panama and his second assignment was F-16s in Spain; but it has been awhile. He was a great guy and I'm sure all worked out well for him.
