I have heard that there is a compromise in the intake plenum in that one that is optimized to bring in air that is forced (in flight), is less forgiving in air that has to be pulled in (during starts, warm starts and take off roll). Did you notice any increased in starting temps or take off temps with the new plenum?

That came from a comment that I made about the big square plenum on the Piper M's. I think it was one of my SimCom instructors, that said that big box gives cool starts and you can't overtemp on takeoff because there is less resistance to pulling air, compared to a tight more efficient plenum. No idea myself, but have noticed that you have to advance the throttle slower in some other TP's like the PC12 that can overtemp if you advance the throttle too fast. Doesn't happen with a Piper M. I had one of my coolest starts the other day at 620, but 645 is a normal start for my -42 with the new Woodward FCU.

Single pitot? If so there is likely a leak.
Terry got it in one. Fitting came loose in the pitot line. It was indeed a nice tailwind, the GPS groundspeed was correct, but the IAS was way low, and consequently the TAS and tailwind calculated from IAS were way off as well. Re-securing the connector fixed the big leak but still left a smaller leak that turned out to be in the Garmin pitot tube itself, has probably always been there. That may explain why GPS triangles show the "IAS reads low at high speeds" discrepancy is a little larger in mine than in most Evos (~10 kts vs. ~7 kts typically).

Pitot tubes have a bleed hole for water ingestion in flight, it will show up as a small leak if not taped off during test.

No. I haven't looked at takeoff temps, although I suppose they are on the data cards, but I do record starting temps and I haven't noticed any increase. Mine have always been high, ~700, even with the old plenum, but the new plenum didn't make them worse.

The pitot condom that we used during the test is supposed to cover that bleed hole, although I didn't personally confirm that it did.

That’s how baby planes are made!

Since I'm one of the people with a plane on order, I actually got a newsletter with pictures of the builds in progress. They had two bodies completed and were preparing the new wings. They had the new landing gear assembled and installed on both planes. They said it's going slow but they're working through the build process and setting up build stations and processes while they're assembling these first two.

Those first two hulls are leftovers from before the shutdown in 2017. Last I heard, they hadn't yet tried to use the Evo molds after they were brought to Czechia.

I got pictures of them making wings so they’re doing something over there.

Closing the loop on the leaky pitot story, at the annual we pulled and bench-tested the pitot tube. Under water, bubbles showed it leaking from one of the mounting holes. Pressurized to 300 knots, it leaked down at 50 kts/min. We replaced it with a new pitot tube that tested as leaking down at just 3.2 kts/min from 300 knots.

I plan to put a second pitot tube on the other wing, as JMB is already doing for the new production. It will be plumbed into the right side G3X display, making the two sides completely independent.

It's awesome to be able to have that option!
