My youngest son has bucked many thousands of rivets in our project. It is a great way to spend time together. Robert

Are you building from sheet or do you use some quick-build components ?

Make sure you're logging ALL the time he and you spend doing that just in case he ever wants to get his A&P in the future.

We are building a slow build. We are not using the quick build optional fuselage or wings. Even the slow build kits have evolved over the years and are very complete and well engineered. Arlen…..When was your plane built? I'm not certain whether the -6 was ever offered as a quick build. Was your airplane a slow build? Robert

Robert
This one had its first flight in 1999. If one could be built in my spare time over a few months, I might have gone that direction. But it would take several years, and it's the flying that I want.....much more than the building..

Congratulations Arlen, that's a beautiful airplane, a work of art just like the Bonanza! I flew up to Martinsville for fuel and lunch one day last year and there was a guy there with his red and white Vans like yours but tri-gear. He had a very small camera mounted on the tail and the video he showed us on his iPad doing loops and rolls looked like a lot of fun! Made me want one too. One question, does anyone ever finish the interior with light weight carpet or whatever? I seem to notice the bare sidewalls on all I've seen. Not a big deal though, I guess it's due to weight.

I did the same thing a couple of years ago and bought a RV-8 built by a F-16 pilot/former A&P. It is too much fun.
I bought a 1/3 of a V-35B which allows me X-country or more seats and Angel Flight trips.
Have fun!
John

Not a big deal though, I guess it's due to weight. You're right that many builders do not install side panel finishes or even carpets. However, the one I bought was finished off nicely. You are going to love flying with a stick! It's the most natural place for the control to be. Does the RV offer the option, if the builder wants, to put the throttle quadrant on the left bulkhead? You are the builder, you can do whatever you want.

I do love stick flying. I even liked the side-stick on the Cirrus a few years ago! Yes, the tandem-seat RV's, e.g., the RV-8, have throttle quads along the left bulkhead. The Aeronca I've been flying is, of course, set up that way.. I have not seen a side-by-side-seat RV, like the -6 or -7, set up that way.....but I'm sure one can do it ---> it is "Experimental" ...
