Nice C414 Doug,
Are you having it C registered?
I have to say I sat in a nice C421C last month, what a nice cabin. I ran when the owner talked about 45 gph cruise fuel flow.

The 421C are a great plane, just over my budget and my mechanic doesn't care for the geared engines. Thanks for making me feel better about a 37 gph cruise fuel flow.

enjoy! Fuel pumps connected to the landing light circuits.... what dummy thought that one up?

I dont like Foxtrot either, its a B58 Baron, C-GEMB. I added stickers on top of the US registry. Cheaper than paint.

You lose about 70 pounds of useful load and a rib out of each wing. There is a higher risk of a spilt flap operation because of the design. The operating speed is about half (slow) to keep the pitch up to a minimum when lowering the flaps. If you have a spilt flap problem you can have a significant roll with just a small movement of the flaps. The slow retraction speed is also a problem on a go around. Parts are one of the biggest problems and almost impossible to get. The company that owns the STC provides very little support. Thanks Gerald My local Robertson STOL dealer passed on the parts info and they are supposedly working on it, new kits are available so you would think that parts are also, but this is aviation. Good points on the split flap issue, go arounds and flap speeds. The plane has a useful load of just under 2000lbs so I should be OK.

Another interesting story about buying airplanes..., I had a friend at KWHP, Bullit Freddie was his moniker.. He made his money selling high end plated bullits, requiring chemicals and electricity. He also had a lucrative deal scavenging the lead out of shooting ranges. He had owned a comanche 400 for about 5 yrs and loved it. He sold it, circa 96 for around 58K. He was feeling the pinch, fuel prices going up, the EPA was always on him, forcing him to relocate his business 3 times. A few years later, after relocating to a remote desert location, and business picked up, he had the itch to get another 400. That 8 cylinder lycoming guzzled gas. He showed me a stellar looking 400 in europe on the internet that was for sale, 125K, good avionics but nothing garmin. The plane looked pristine, black paint job, leather interior. He put a deposit on it without a prebuy, it went to an escrow account. He traveled to europe with a mechanic to check it out, engine checked out ok, no corrosion, seemed like it was ready go launch off across the pond. A few weeks later, he sent a ferry pilot over to bring it back to california and stuff started surfacing, resulting in a six month nightmare! Fuel bladder leaking, fuel selector valve leaking, the shop that did the work determined that the prop overhaul was done by a facility that had its certificate revoked and prop had to be redone. Then avionics squawks. More airline tickets, hotel bills, It kept going on and on.The quality of the paint job was only fair. Poor freddie was buried in that plane by the time it hit california. Caveat Emptor.

That's the recirculation pumps in the main tanks. Their purpose is to circulate fuel from the rear to the front of the tank in a nose down position when fuel is low to prevent unporting, a situation which would be rare in normal operations.

Doug you have a very nice 414 that will get in and out short fields at max gross. The R/STOL will help with an engine out and at low speeds. Do you have the stainless steel crossfeed lines and the engine beam blankets, these are important safety items ???

Thanks I not sure on the SS crossfeed lines and looked as closely as I could with just cowls off at beams but don't remember a blanket. I'll add them to my list. Thanks Doug
