Hi Sam,

One of the things I did as I was shopping was to go get a type rating in both of the airplanes I was considering (legacy citations and CJs). This is an expensive way to make a decision but I got a lot out of it. Training is always good, I knew I'd likely need one of these type ratings and I didn't want to make a mistake with my purchase. You'll never really understand an airplane until you know you are going to get tested on it.

BTW - I have a number of extra CJ/CJ1 manuals from training and I'd be glad to give you one if you send me your address.

Hi John. I know I started this thread, and have probably told a number of people how I love the Stang, but I’m willing to bet I start out in the 501. That said the mission (primarily business) is still developing. But the 501 seems like a similar aviation trainer that the Baron has been. Then after a few hundred (maybe 500)hours, who knows. The CJ’s are so cramped for me. I have a long torso. Now I do fit fine in the Mustang and 501.
Great informative thread though. No doubt the Phenom has a heck of a ramp feel, but I’m a community guy. CJP knocks the Embraer group dead. Or they were already dead.

BTW. Thanks for the offer. I am looking for a 501 AFM though. Have the Flight Sfety Recurrent training manual

Hey Bryan,

You have any interest in flying this P Baron I bought home or landing at a grass strip in a Bonanza at night?

That's a joke. Bryan and I are best friends and have had many an adventure. I introduced him to jets with the Eclipse and we've had lots of discussions about legacy Citations off program versus his new Mustang.

Mike

Re 410. Simcom made a big deal that Mustangs O2 masks aren’t certified to 410. If true, what do you do?

Descend. Certified to 400. I’m not staying at 410 with a press problem. I’ll be through 400 in seconds. Won’t matter. Splitting hairs. The passenger masks are only certified to 250. Uh oh.

If I had 9 lives, I used 8.5 of them flying that pile of garbage home for you. This is how Mike treats his "friends". Fly out in an Eclipse Jet. He flies back in the Eclipse after buying a rather sketchy P-Baron. Leaves me a Garmin portable ADS-B receiver to get the weather, since we're going back to central FL and there are storms everywhere. Great solution, which battery died about halfway through the flight. Well, time to see if the old on board radar worked. It did. Sorta. Fiddling with that, descending into the clouds, and then an engine quits. There I am, flying a single engine approach, with Mike on the side of the runway taking a video. Epic.

And that Bonanza trip. Oh geez...

To quote my instructor who did my initial:

- If you have a regular depressurization event, get your mask on, you'll be in the 20's before this becomes an issue.
- If you have a sudden catastrophic depressurization event at 410, say hello to God.

So to be clear, you would be wearing your mask at 410 anyway and it wouldn't matter?

Sounds like a good deal to me!

No, he is assuming you are NOT wearing a mask at 410.

No real arguments but i will correct one very minor point - G1000 NXI is available for the Phenom 100 now; $60K for three screens and the FMS panel. The Phenom 300 with G1000 will be able to upgrade shortly.

Slight correction - Garmin is currently flight testing NXi in the Phenom 100 and expect availability after the summer. They leased my friend's plane for six months to get the STC done.

Sam, the 501sp seems like a great way to get started. Is the cockpit more roomy?

I sure like the cap costs - seems like you can get into one for the same money as a nice 421. If you take a few pages from MT's book, it looks like they can be pretty cheap to maintain.

I have no business owning a CJ2, my financial irresponsibility has risen to an all time high (450).

I really enjoy hanging around with all the smart successful people at CJP - all the time I'm there I'm saying to myself "wow, I'd like to be like these folks someday"
