I could SO be talked into this trip! The bureaucracy and mechanics of flying in Mexico worries this gringo a little bit, but if I can cram it into my schedule I would love to be able to head down!!

Glad to take a pile of people from the Dallas area in the 421 as well!

Alex, thanks for inviting all of BT to your home! ;->

Hmmmm....

I may be in hot water with my wife if all of BT stays at my home, but I promise to make the travel to MMQT a breeze. I can also set some hotels and/or houses up in San Miguel.

You sure can, just try avoiding it when it's IMC. An MEA of 13,000 will be just around where you'll start finding ice and your Bo will start running out of breath so your options will be limited. VFR it is fine and a nice scenic flight. The leg with high terrain is from TMN to MMQT.

Good thing is you will get to use the SVT on that nice panel of yours.

Any one of the first three weekends in November works for me Alex!!  maybe fly down Thursday and return Sunday. :cross: I sure wish the runway was open in San Miguel. How cool would it be to bring 12-15 planes to the new airport to show the economic benefit of a 5,000' runway.

Luc last time I flew down I crossed the boarder at McAllen, TX (MFE) and flew VFR on top at 10.5 the rest of the way to MMQT. Yeah the MEA's are a little high there like 14-15 like Alex said but if you can go VFR its way lower.

I'm planning on going last week of August. Going to visit my missionary friend about an hour north of Queretaro. You can ride along and I'll leave you with Alex or you can come with us.

Or if you want a co pilot nav I'll ride back down with you in the red bo sometime! :bud:

Thank you sir.
As you know, I'm not afraid to go high. Came back from Ca or AXZ (cant remember) at 17,500. IN fact, I kinda like it, as long as ATC doesn't think I'm a King Air and slam me down in 15 miles.

Hey, I was missing out on this thread!!

Although our Baron is back in Uruguay, I live in Mexico City and I am looking to buy a 414 with STOL (for Uruguay as well), so I am entitling myself to this reunion!!!

If you are in the mood for some real short field you can try your luck at Valle de Bravo airport, 2600ft at 7500ft altitude (MX69). Just kidding! this is not a strip for a 340 regardless of STOL.

BUT if you do come to Valle de Bravo I have a nice house there with 4 rooms to accommodate fellow BTers.

November works for me!

Foreflight.

And. http://vatmex.weebly.com/uploads/2/2/1/ ... 2/mmlp.pdf

Use the above address but at the end put in the Mexican airport you want. The above is for La Paz

Hi Felipe - interesting... we (my family) are building a place in Valle de Bravo, and a lot of my cousins and uncles are very active hang-glider/parapente pilots and have a school there. Do you know Vico or Miguel?

Here are some pictures from a cousin flying his C182 into Valle. Beautiful country, but certainly challenging. The runway is short, narrow and high, surrounded by a lot of terrain and trees. Sometime ago, someone (not very smart) went in there with a C421 - he got it in, but ended up in the tress trying to depart.

Valle is a really nice spot though, but for most of us, you need to drive to get there.

Hi Alex,

I am not very active in the flying community up here in Mexico. I do know the Quintanillas and Eduardo Canale from the parapente crowd. I've been/raced several times at the kart track near the aerodrome, and once went to the aerodrome to fly an experimental (fox something) but we didnt get full power on takeoff and aborted the whole flight.

I saw that 421! What a crime! That runway is not for a twin! And I say this after operating on 1500ft grass strips in Uruguay in our Barons, but I wouldn't venture into this one given the terrain and trees.

I drive my car or bike almost every weekend to Valle from DF. Nice and easy drive (with the exception of the recent Toluca road works for the new train/2nd level highway).

I would seriously consider a partnership on something like a Maule for Valle. Queretaro is a bit far for me to drive to get on a plane.

If you come to Valle de Bravo on a weekend do let me know and I would love to meet up and chat about your flying activities in Mexico. I might have to go to Queretaro in the near future and will contact you to see if we can coincide there.

Felipe
