Here it is Lance, It really happened.1,304 miles and over 12 hours. Really amazing for an under powered Apache. That won't open for me. Here's the link on Google Books. https://books.google.ca/books?id=M7R6NT ... &q&f=false

Can someone verify the height of the tails? My hangar door is right at 13' high. From my research I see the 421C at 12' 11" and the 414A is 11' 5.5". Thought they would both be the same. Is there a difference between the SL 421C and the later TL version? Thanks

Thought they would both be the same. Is there a difference between the SL 421C and the later TL version? Thanks It depends on the model, all 421C’s have the exact same tail. The straight leg 421C tail sits a little lower because of the main gear design. The TL 421C tail sits a little higher because the the main gear is taller. Tip tank 414’s have a shorter tail than the 414A. The 414A tail is the same as the straight leg 421C. From the ground up it’s only 11’5.5 because it has the older shorter main gear that sits lower.

Thanks Maybe it's just an optical illusion, but the straight leg 421C always seems to sit a little more tail low than the trailing link version. The straight leg 421C and the 414A "should" be the same height. It took some work, but I put a straight 414 into a 10' hangar door so we could work on it in a heated hangar, but it was a PITA and wouldn't want to do it often.. AirTug makes a tug that lifts the nose a fair amount if it's close... Our build a small ramp..

It's possible to get our straight leg 421 under that height without raising the nose, but the main struts have to be set pretty low and the nose can't be under-inflated. With full tanks and weight in the cabin, the cabin door will be within an inch of the ground when open, and the tail looks pretty low. We like to keep the mains set higher, which gives the cabin door several inches of clearance for uneven ground surfaces, and it looks better overall. But in order to get under 12'-6" overall height we have to raise the nose 4" with the tug.
